It wasn't a shoplifter...our public affairs person got that wrong. The officer was responding to a report of a robbery. The victim came in to the store, and said he'd been robbed. The officer made contact with the suspects, and (this is the no-so-smart-part) tried to remove the subject from the car. The driver grabbed him, and took off, dragging the officer from the parking lot at 1st/Broadway to the I-65 southbound ramp on 1st St.
He's Ok, and will be back to work today (Friday). He just needs a refresh on how to NOT remove a subject from a car.
