Louisville football player arrested, charged with assault of a police officer |
RE: Louisville football player arrested, charged with assault...
Sorry, but I have to disagree. It is well within the right of each municipality to have its own sovereign law enforcement agency. The tax paying citizens of those 5th and 6th class cities are the only ones that have the right to make that decision. If they want their own police department and are willing to invest their own tax dollars, then so be it. I agree that officer safety can be an issue at times but I accept the fact that this is a dangerous line of work and going home safe is not a guarantee. Using your logic, calls for service in rural areas should be made by the nearest metropolitan agency. Not the devoted, hard working copper who works and entire county alone and counts on the state police officer who has to come from three counties away for back-up.

I think the bottom line here is pretty obvious.
When you knowingly vote a convicted felon into executive office, you shouldn't be surprised when he shìts in your bed.

I would have to both agree and disagree with your statement. I would agree that there are some cities that do not need a police agency. This has a lot to do about the size of the city, the need for police protection and their hiring process. I retired from a 4th class city (one of the oldest) in Jefferson County, and unlike some of the suburban cities our hiring process was pretty tough. It wasn't about "Who you Know" but more about what you know. I have been told by several members of LMPD who attempted to transfer over that our process was harder than LMPD's. Sure, we had our draw backs but every agency does. I disagree about lumping ALL small agencies into a single group. Some are very professional agencies. Anchorage, Prospect, Indian Hills, Jeffersontown and St. Matthews just to name a few. Oh, and by the way, we did not operate off the sheriffs radio, we had our own and I can not count the times when we were first on the scene when a LMPD officer was calling for backup. We are all the same, just stick together and everyone goes home to their loved ones. Stay Safe my Brothers and Sisters!
