I agree with a lot of what you said. Some of it just came across as a little pompous.. That is assuming you're the same person who wrote a lot of the initial comments

Yeah, here in good ole Jefferson County it is the officer's poor report writing that has the judges dismissing/amending so many charges and letting people who should be behind bars out on the street again. Right. Also I have dealt with plenty of prosecutors as well who just want to plead everything down to get on with it. How many times have we seen them automatically dismiss an assault 3rd if we weren't put in the hospital over it. We are the ones out on the street that are told we just have to deal with certain things like the occasional fight, cussed out, flipped off, and so on. We know what happens when someone acts up in court. Maybe the court workers should be told to just deal with it. Flip a judge off or cuss in court and go directly to jail. Flip us off or cuss us out and they are just expressing their first amendment rights. Of course we can't hardly arrest anyone anymore anyways.

You are so right on! LMPD breeds a culture of tolerance for poor writing. I'll never forget last year as acting sergeant I mentioned to a lieutenant about a certain officer who is a very good officer, but who wrote so poorly it needed to be addressed. I'm not talking about the occasional mispelled word. I'm talking about someone who writes on a fifth grade level! The lieutenant smiled and told me to keep that between us, command knew about it, and we are not in the business of grading papers like high school. Right then, I knew there was little value on excellence. "As long as you can understand the jist of what he is saying..." is all that matters is what I was told. I don't mind people having a weakness in the area of English, but notice how these officers are the ones who tend to be the department know-it-alls.

Look, you old guys sit on your high horse keyboards and talk a lot of unnecessary crap about "new guys" or "young pups." Just blows my mind that some of you act like you were never in that position or never wrote one report or arrest slip that was atrocious. Never mind that though, instead of incessantly whining or venting through your keyboard, how about using your experience to help that "new guy" or "young pup" to articulate better on their reports. Just a thought.
