Washington D.C Police Officers Get Big Pay Hike

Washington D.C. police officers will get a raise for the first time in nearly two years under a $300 million pay package approved by the D.C. Council.

The contract was approved by police in February. It would give more than 3,400 union officers a 21 percent raise over the next three-and-a-half years. Some will be retroactive to October 2003, when the last contract expired.

Others pay hikes will continue in steps through 2007.

Mayor Tony Williams supports the plan and has recommended that the city's 239 nonunion senior officers receive the same pay increase.
