A Lexington man was fatally shot by two officers during a domestic violence call, police said.

The identity of the man killed Monday night had not been released Tuesday morning.

The Lexington officers, who also were not identified, killed the man during a confrontation, police said.

Officers were called to a house on Newcastle Street just after 10 p.m. EST and were told a suicidal person was in the house, police said.

When officers arrived, a woman and her daughter ran from the house, followed by a man, assistant police Chief Ken Hall said. The officers told the man to show his hands and he pointed a shotgun at the officers, Hall said.

"As soon as they lit a flashlight at him, he immediately raised a gun at them," Hall said.

Police said the mother and daughter were unharmed.

The officers were placed on administrative leave, Hall said.
