Thank God these officers did not hesitate now lets hope that their dept. supports them and doesn't bow to special interest groups like they do here in louisville.

Lexington Metro Officers Fatally Shoot Armed Domestic Violence...

I work for Lexington Metro and I can thankfully say that the brass is backing our two on the shooting from the moment it happened. Our guys here retain their Police Powers and are given unmarked non-crownvic units to drive while during the administative assignment time. They are assigned to the Chaplain's Office and typicically take up investigative type duties until they can wade out their administrative assignment time. This is typical here to keep your face off the streets for a little bit and give you a little time to adjust to what happened.

I'd be willing to say that 90% of the positive policies on Officer shootings here (including the retention of Police Authority) came at the cost of another Officer that was involved in a shooting a few years ago. His patrol unit was taken away with no replacement and assigned to clerical type duties where he remained for too long of a period. I can't remember if your vehicles are personally assigned but we can drive our vehicles off duty anywhere in the county or to higher eduation in another county. His Authority was also held from him until the administrative time was completed. We have a new Post Traumatic Stress Policy here that, especially in this shooting, has proven to really back us up.

Sadly one of the Officers involved in this shooting and I had attended the funeral of Officer Grignon in Louisville not six hours before he was involoved in this shooting. We both had talked about Deadly Force situations the entire was home. Scary.
