Courier-Journal's mistake twisted into police scrutiny

PHOTO

The Courier-Journal found itself explaining why it chose to publish a homicide scene photo which included the body of 26-year-old Dante White, Louisville's 61st homicide victim this year. The Courier-Journal apologized Wednesday for what it's calling a terrible mistake.

Unfortunately the Courier-Journal's mistake has taken a backseat to the fact that the media has chosen to highlight an officer's apparent lack of solace at the scene. Latisha Haines, the victim's cousin, stated during a t.v interview "The police officers are right there, laughing, with blood all over his face, what could be so funny about that?" "It's just another number to them."

Ms. Haines is referring to the Courier-Journal photo where a female police officer was smiling when the photo was taken.
