technology isn't bad just don't rely on it as a catch all. personal experience. tried telling new guy that bb gun wasn't a deadly weapon. A Sgt. and Lt. also said the same thing, but 30 minutes later new guy figured out compressed air didn't fit the criteria for deadly weapon after guy was in cuffs. Sometimes it is better to read the book so you understand the text in the paragraph after hearing stories.
