I thought the same thing, but I am under the impression BV pushed a citizen out of harm's way before he was hit by a vehicle. IF that's the one you are referring to, I assume that measure was the cause for receipt of the award.

Look it up. The purple heart was awarded for injury recieved in the line of duty. Considering that Buddy will have problems for the rest of his life, his career is shortened because of the injury and he saved another person from recieving serious injury or possibly fatal injuries from the accident, which was on an expressway ramp in the junction I for one think he deserves at least the awards he recieved, if not thanks from all of us in uniform for what he did. Just one persons opinion.

Purple Heart – Members who are seriously injured in the performance of their duty under honorable conditions due to assaults, fires, explosions or other actions are eligible to receive the Purple Heart. Serious injury is defined as any injury from a life-threatening situation, which requires substantial medical treatment. The Purple Heart may be awarded posthumously.
