It runs fine because of the men and women on the front line, the patrol officers, detectives and sergeants. NOT because of the front office. Moral is low and will continue to get lower as they (the front office) do not care what happens to the patrol officers unless it looks bad on them. They (the front office) are vindictive people who if you have ever crossed them they do not forget and will do what they can to keep you from advancing or moving to another vacancy. Love my job so No I am not going to leave, but things need to get better and will when they are gone.

Thank you for asking the question and I must sincerely reply with the following: First, for several years LMPD has been the product of "absentee leadership." Chief White hardly ever showed his face to the platoons on the street -- I never seen him at a roll call (to the contrary, his Interim replacement has already been out to the platoon). Chief White lived in the Crystal Palace and worried more about who he could promote around him than the issues and problems faced by the dept (and to his credit he made that clear, "Your morale is no concern of mine.") Second, the problems that an internal audit revealed in JCPS (favoritism, nepotism, etc) is still going strong within LMPD. The CHief's favorite sergeant on the dept was reported to have had the rules of promotional process changed to qualify for the LT assessment center? If that did happen it needs to be brought to light and addressed so things like that can happen. Unfortunately, the dept is still ran by former LPD and we haven't truly merged. Lastly, for this post anyway, there is simply too many clicks and powerholds. We have too many leaders who simply seem to lust for power because all they care about is making the command happy and why wouldn't they. If you have been promoted to an appointed position that is going to bring you a HUGE pay raise not only now, but for the rest of your life, you are going to do whatever it takes to make the one who appointed you happy and you spend so much time looking up, you don't have time to look down at the officers on the street unless it's to crack a wip for a second to get your stat numbers a little higher. This should be a great career, but unfortunately, our organization is woefully ill and needs to be revitalized with a new vision. You cannot point the finger at one person now that White is gone, but we must change and we have to let the the Mayor, council and who ever else know about this if we hope to change.

To the policeman driving you patrol car on the Gene Snyder talking on your cellphone and running over cars in the left hand lane so you could speed down the road... Those cars have real big numbers on them Maybe the new chief will do something about your driving habits. I am sure if you saw someone driving like you were you would stop them and lock them up. Maybe if we start posting videos of Police Officer breaking the law it will help you guys drive better. Just a thought

Please don't run over me
