The taxpayer argument is null and void here. The driver of said vehicle is also a taxpayer. So it was his car, too, correct? Paid with HIS money, correct? He drew a salary from taxpayers, so that means, as a taxpayer, he paid himself, correct?

Most of the officers treat their car like an extension of themselves and therefore take very good care of them (most, not all). The criminals arrested are the ones who spit, sh-t, pee and vomit in them.
