Here are some ideas. Since you were an acting sergeant, I am guessing that you are an officer that usually works with the officer who writes poorly. If so, be a friend and see if you can help. You can teach or buy a dictionary. Just be nice about it. Work together and make it better. The way you approach them will determine if you are successful or not. If they will not listen. You did what you could.

Now then, why go to the LT? How long were you an acting sergeant? Was it a month or so? If so, you may have been correct to do that, but if it was shorter than that or there was a sergeant that was just off for a day or two, then you should have gone to the sergeant. I am trying not to be too critical, but solving problems at the lowest level really makes for a good team.

Try to be a part of the solution and if it works, things are good. If it doesn't work, then complain until they get tired of listening to you.
