Well, in the military, if you are a LEADER (NCO, Officer, etc) and you have an extra marital affair you are court martialed and your career is over.

Unless they are doing something illegal, or against policy, it is absolutely none of the employer's or public's business. A person's personal life should stay personal.

A legitimate response to you.

The terminology you are looking for was once classified under "Moral Turpitude", which is a concept, which I was taught came into being during the Victorian period of the United States which basically was used to described conduct or behavior that was in violation on the norms of the community and nation. The great Wiki defines it as "a legal concept in the United States that refers to "conduct that is considered contrary to community standards of justice, honesty or good morals."

It has long been considered out dated, however I personally agree with the tenants of the doctrine. Such as it is common sense that one shouldn't hire a person to be a police officer if the used, sold or were otherwise involved in illegal narcotics trafficking. Or were known to have committed a blatant violation of the law. Yet I have heard the argument from some HR experts that this would minimize a lot of potential hires. But that is an issue for the command, the HR folks and those involved in the hiring process to sort out.

My personal belief is that if a man, or woman, can't keep the oath, before God, their family and the law of the land to remain faithful, then their may be a character flaw which may show that they could more easily violate their oath's to the community. But given that the national norm seems to accept the behavior of the violation of spousal oaths (hence the infidelity and divorce rates that have sky rocketed since the mid 20th century) this behavior would no longer be viewed by the community, or nation as being a violation of the norms and thus shouldn't be considered a matter of moral turpitude.
