Hmmmm. I don't see it. I bet we will never see that money.

OK, I'm trying to follow you on this one -

You say the issue of negotiations was brought up by the FOP. You would be correct. The FOP correctly felt that charging a fee for the take home car was something to be brought up in contract negotiations, not at the whim of the mayor.

However, the mayor violated fair labor practices in taking that money out in the first place. It should have be negotiated FIRST, not taken from you, and then you be forced to negotiate it after the fact. There should be NO negotiations on this issue, and the courts shouldn't force them. The fact is, Jerry took the money in violation of the law. He should be forced to give it back, and the take-home fees be brought up when you begin contract negotiations next year.

One other thing - I get tired of hearing "What's the FOP going to do about this or that?". You do realize that the Executive Board is NOT the FOP, right? They're a dozen or so people who guide the direction of the union. The BODY of the membership is the FOP, not the E-board. As long as bylaws permit, a majority of the membership can decide what direction or action the FOP takes. Go to a meeting, make a motion, and get it passed. If you want the union to sue, then get support for it, ensure that such action follows the bylaws, go to the next monthly meeting....and DO IT. Quit whining about the E-Board not doing anything. They're people, too - what makes you think they're any smarter than you, or know exactly what to do in every situation that arises. You elected them to guide the union, not BE the union. Stop whining about it, and go to a meeting - be involved, and you'll be a lot happier.

Sorry for the soapbox rant - I just get tired of hearing the nonsense about "The FOP doesn't ever do anything"....and no, I'm not on the E-board. Not enough time to dedicate to that stuff. I've got a life and family other than work - but I am active in the union.
