i agree with most all of this from last two posts. Different areas really do have different definitions for a squirrel. Who really cares? Is it that important? You know who works, who knows how to solve problems, who's an idiot that should be an accountant for Arbys. Can't quite understand the argument over a self-created definition of a furry woodland creature. If the only definition is someone who wants to come to work, take care of their beat, know who the dirt bags are, know who the business owners and good citizens are, NOT BE LAZY, solve the real problems and give the tax-payers their money's worth: pls sign me up. I will be your squirrel. I lock people up left and right, but still know when we are short and when a ticket or a ride home is the better option. The loss of beat integrity and pride in keeping your beat cleaned up has been severely damaged in this dept. by lack of officers - forcing people to make runs everywhere and ride a different area every night. In the area I work, we still don't want other people to have to make runs on our assigned beats. On the other hand, we take that mentality with us to any beat we work. Most importantly, we work together to make it a better place for people to live. Our senority ranges from 2 yrs all the way to over 20. If you want the 'squirrels' in your area to learn something - lead by example and give them pointers without degrading. You will get a much greater change than shunning them and making them feel like an outsider. But hey, up to you - you are the one that has to work with them.
