Sorry, that doesn't fly, if it is a workday, they should be wearing work clothes. If they are on call, and get called in the middle of the night, it doesn't take longer to put on a pair of khakis and a polo shirt than a teeshirt and shorts. If during the day, and they know they are on call, take them with you and stop at a Thornton's to change. (And I'll note, also, if you are out with your family, in the same car, you have to go home anyway, right? Or do you leave your spouse and kids by the side of the road?) For heaven's sake, people, dress like the professional you claim to be. You don't know what victim's families are thinking, to be honest, I've heard a few comments in those cases that don't get solved that the detectives don't look very professional. And the bad pub on the Cano case concerning the detectives sure isn't helping matters any.

The clearance rate is because most murders are relatively easy to solve - the random ones are much harder. Fortunately, we don't have that many murders where the victim and the perp aren't connected in some way.
