You are exactly right. The chief's "take it or leave" management style (that's right management) makes me gag everythime I witness it. The fact of the matter is that he, or most of his appointees, could care less about the effects of policy and lack of enforcement standards on the rank and file.

What does he care about you ask? Well here it is:

1. Getting the bonus each year from metro gov't (yep it is real folks)

2. Getting his retirement covered in less than 10 years (yep he is fully funded in the state system now)

3. Keeping his ego inflated enough to believe he can move on to another agency after this nightmarish display of smoke and mirrors.

Since we know the media reads this occassionaly, What do we need?

1. An OUTSIDE audit of LMPD books (i.e. the movement of funds from account to account).

2. An OUTSIDE audit of the LMPD budget (ie how the mayor has hidden a crap load of money with in our budget that he has used with little to no oversight.)

3. We need LEADERSHIP. Management is need, sure, but management with out leadership leads to the impossible situation we are now in.

4. We need enforcement. We need those people who dishonor OUR uniform to be indicted / fired / kicked in the teeth PUBLICLY. That means the Walter Bakers (Federal Diversion on felonies supposedly), the Mike Canteens (Lazy), Jackie Hollingsworth (should be a felon), and a whole host of others need to be terminated. That alone would improve the morale of the rank and file.

5. We need COMMUNICATION. Tell us what you need us to do. I know how to enforce the law, and I know the process. But tell us what WE can do to improve our community. Tell us what we do RIGHT and wrong.

6. We need CONSISTENCY. This COMSTAT to COMSTAT make believe numbers fiasco has led to people LYING about the numbers and cooking the books (they need to be fired too!). Don't change something that is working. Let it work.

7. NO MORE BS "TASK FORCE" fixes! Admit you fouled up and fix it, create a DETAIL PLATOON / STREET CRIMES ? WTF ever you want to call it. Just do it.

8. Oh yeah while I am on this rant! We need an audit of PSU. How much did the court invesitigations cost the public (meaning me) in overtime expenses.

9. Promotions. FIX THE SYSTEM. No one who has never indicted someone SHOULD EVER BE PROMOTED. No one who has been a SLUG should ever be promoted. Period.

I am done.

Dallas police First Assistant Chief Charlie Cato (right), the department's second-in-command behind Chief David Brown, was inside the car when a Dallas police deputy chief gave an apparent last-minute order to provide an escort to the funeral procession of Chief Brown's son.

Cato has so far declined to comment regarding the decision to order an escort for the funeral procession of David Brown Jr., who died in a Father's Day shootout after killing Lancaster police Officer Craig Shaw and Jeremy McMillian, an innocent bystander.
