OMG - someone with some serious sense!!!!! This guy (or gal) is pointing out the idiocy of the system by using it against them. I love it! I really agree about the day work guys, except for the problem with having court on off-days, but you can plan ahead for that, right? Don't work too hard on the days when you know a regular first call sub will fall on an off day. I really like the sitting in the court room.

Good points being made here. I like the polite sitting in the court. But this idea might be slightly better. Crowd the halls near your conferance rooms, make it miserable for the defense attornies to get in and out. After all nobody wants to be there. Make them uncomfortable enough and they will complain and they will complain loudly. But be polite, extremely polite and explain why the halls are crowded so they know.

Also if defense counsel is late, make sure you address it. In fact embarass the guy or gal in front of his client about not caring enough to show up on time, but be polite. You can use this line, "Mr. (or Mrs) ____________, I was hear at 9 am. Your client, who pays you was here by 9:30. We both have been waiting on you. I guess you have to bill your client for the entire time though, huh?"
