Police Chief Robert White being considered for Dallas job

March 9th, 2010 @ 10:05AM (14 years ago)

Is anyone surprised that he is once again showing how showing how much "loyalty and commitment" he has to the people of our community and the Officers on our department?

Robert White is a prime example of one of the things wrong with this country. Let's not look inside our community but do what loser Jerry Abramson and many other liberal mayors have done and tell the public that we need to do a nationwide search and forget the Commanding Officers that have given a lifelong commitment to THIS community. Lets bring in total strangers that have no ties and no knowledge of the culture or history of the department.

Abramson wanted a hatchet man with no ties to be an administrator, not a leader. He got just that in Robert White. If that is what Dallas is looking for then by all means hire the man. This community needs a leader, not an administrator collecting a hefty salary. White has a long history of trying only to fool the public with FAKE stats to make himself and Abramson look good.

Lets put it all out there people. White has instituted a QUOTA SYSTEM. He is requiring Officers to write tickets "un-officially" . When they fall short of his goal he PERSONALLY calls them out by name at his crimestat meetings and ridicules them behind their backs. ( Officers do not attend these meetings only CO's from every division.) They are punished with extra duties etc... yet he contends that writing extra tickets not patrolling your beat is going to solve all of Louisville's crime woes.

DALLAS..................PLEASE HIRE THIS MAN! HE IS THE PERFECT ADMINISTRATOR YOU ARE LOOKING FOR!

Well i do have to say, The Chief could have hammered alot of us on Court appearances, and i feel that he was more than reasonable in his discipline. No Chief stay's forever, so i cant blame him for wanting to go to a bigger dept and make more money. Everyone of us whom was in his seat would do it, Now dont take me the wrong way, i dont agree with many many many of his policies, but give him a little bit of cudos.

I don't think he'll get it. Virtually ever other finalist, save one guy from California, was from Dallas or the surrounding area. Unless they have a strong case for bringing in someone completely disconnected from the outside of the situation, one of the locals will likely get selected. Anybody know the races of the other finalists? Sure, whatever, gripe at me, but race had a lot to do with RW being selected here.

March 10th, 2010 @ 7:33AM (14 years ago)

Bob,

I like how you had your little minions twist comstat to reflect less crime instead the REAL increase just so you could get your "bonus." Have you thought about going back to Washington D.C. ? You would fit right in at the senate or house. Take a look in the mirror. You are a politician, not the police. Obama will make you the tard czar or something if you can't get elected.

This whole court policy is such a joke. It only hurts the officers that are pro-active. I will stick to bench warrants, parking citations, and writing people for no insurance, but only people that drive brand new vehicles; they probably have insurance and will take care of it before I get a subpoena. I bet defense attorneys love this new policy, it makes playing their little games showing up late, making officers wait. Robert Schadd I'm talking about you. People excited about the chief leaving, better be prepared, we could get someone worse.

I am as perturbed as anyone concerning the recent romper room, hold my hand, B.S., policy crap as everyone else: court czars. tardy slips. inspections to make sure my car doesn't have an unauthorized sticker inside while you check to see if I have the correct number of road flares. (lets call my parents in for a conference while we are at it)

I completely understand and agree with everyone saying we should 'lay down'. I have had enough of comstat and the Jefferson County system of: as long as the private attorneys were payed - DISMISS/AMMEND DOWN - to heck with the real victims.

The problem I have with 'laying down' is this: When you get down to it, we do not work for the chief. We do not work for the mayor- That would make us part of a local dictatorship, and we might as well be 'nazis'. No one person should ever control a policing force to do 'his/her' bidding over the public. We work for the tax paying citizen. Make traffic stops. Patrol the neighborhoods. Go after the drug dealers. Write warnings instead of citations. Hell, don't write anything at all if you don't want to, but don't quit working. Protect the sheep. (they quickly forget the failings and lies of politicians, but never forget the actions of police.)

ps - I just shot my door handles off my car. dang agoraphobia !

I have read many of these post and chose to bit my tongue. Finally I read something that made sense and another that angered me.

First , I am a veteran officer. I REMEMBER what it was like pre-merger. I remember the city issues and the county's issues. I also know that instead of taking the best of both former departments, we have a combination of past bad practices in play. Our policy is getting worse by the day (city style) and our leadership has become paper (accountability) driven (county style). Many of our young officers are afraid to make a decision on their own, and call their supervisor for advice. What happened to the senior officers? Our officers are legitimately worried about being thrown to the wolves by the command staff. Beat Ownership is dead in the town simply because so many officers are worried about getting their "numbers" for the night and their beats are going to shiste…

I do not blame Chief White, after having talked with the man, I like him on an individual basis. But I recognized this early on, he is a MANAGER, who answers solely to this Mayor. And he is makes a crap load of money doing that, so why would he challenge the hand that feeds him? I said in a former post that the problem is that WE need a strong leader, someone who we would follow, even if we don't agree with the decision. That has been lacking in our department and has been compounded by the promotion of many individuals beyond the competency levels. And the promotion of the those who have learned to "cook" the numbers to make crime go down ( I direct this at Major Gibson directly, although there are other who do the same ) is simply proof of the political climate. Again, I can't blame the chief; he is simply doing his job of working for the mayor.

I swore an oath to the citizens of this 'burg and plan on serving them until I retire. I will always smile at the children, be polite to the citizen and will continue to be the strong hand that is willing to go after those who violate those rules of society we are sworn to enforce. I became a police officer with those intentions, and I will continue to do so; NOT FOR THIS COMMAND STAFF but for the citizens.

I will also tell my sergeant that I have court in the morning, and will advise him that I want my 10 hours between shifts since THEY have made court another shift I must comply with. When they deny, I will file my grievance and watch my command panic. After all if they violate contract, they violate policy and then the problem is on them. I will also nickel and dime them to death for court overtime, even if it is simply for 15 minutes a shot.

To anybody from Dallas reading this, the Chief is not entirely to blame for this… He might be the MANAGER you need. I am just afraid to find out which of our own would be selected to replace him.

Simple question............if you are supposed to be at court at 9am but your case is not called until, say 10:05am are you really late for court? Simple answer NO! FYI the way we are served notice for court may also be illegal maybe the new FOP pres could find out about that.

Another question......if I am on day work and have to go to court can I be late? My shift started at 0700 hours and I have been on the clock for two hours before evening showing up for court so how can I be late?

FOP.........FOP... is there anybody there or are you afraid to start anything because you don't know who the next chief is?

Lets face reality here people. We are own worst enemy. Seriosuly. You have morons getting on here (both sworn and nonsworn) and basically challenging each other to some anonymous d@ck measuring contest. It makes no sense, none at all.

Play it all by the numbers for the people

Why does the the newest part of "Courtgate" (which I will call Courtgate version 2.5)offend us... Because, like the original courtgate (version 1.0) it fails to address the problems with DISTRICT COURT in Jefferson County? It fails to address that an officer, who is either Midwatch or Latewatch is a walking zombie in the morning and poses a risk to others by even being on the road. It fails to address that the system allows the DEFENDANTS and defense counsel to show up at will. It fails to address that the department is probably violating our contract by creating what can now be defined as a seperate shift, with little, to no time off imbetween. Courtgate 1.5, which was the continuation of looking into officers past the year "reveiwed" by the CJ has proven even less effective. Courtgate 2.0 which is the version in which the CJ, desperate for another story, AGAIN requested all officers court info, only to find that the problems haven't changed (thus it can't be blamed on the cops) so no dtory was done... 2.5 now includes them screwing Danny Assef by making him the fall guy to thier plan (he is screwed because he will never again get the respect he had earned once upon a time - after all he used to be one hell of a copper)

We fail to see that when we simply COMPLAIN it hurts... When we explain, it actually helps. If every officer waited to 8:59 to sign in, flooding the system, it will prove to falible. If every officer then goes straight to the court room, signs in and then takes a SEAT ON THE PUBLIC seating, and therefor not allowing defendants to sit, forcing them to be in the hall way, it will cause the system to panic. It is really simple. Nothing mean said. Nothing disparaging the command staff said. If every ON DUTY officer has to go to court, the command staff would sh#t themselves. So daywork guys, start writing good cases and get subpoenaed.

If you have to be at court, make it uncomfortable for the defense counsel. Don't help them find their client. Don't "work it out"... Go to trial, make the proscecutors and defense earn their money. In short make the system work. I promise the BAR ASSOCIATION will begin to get the hint that maybe they need to step up and start to try to address this issue. After all, otherwise they have earn their money the hard way.

And if you accept a "ON CALL" subpoena, show up, sign in and leave... Then call the prosecutor at 1530 hours and ask if he still needs you... When he or she says no, sign out and collect your court pay and OT.

If you are going to be late to court call the court line and say "I might be late". Even if you are not going to be late, call the court line - after all you might be a minute late "signing in" - Nothing can then be done to you and you also help highlight a flaw in the system and, you followed the directive.

So again, be polite, be articulate and explain.

If someone still wants to be an ass-monkey after that, then give them both barrells... but until then that is MY TWO CENTS

March 17th, 2010 @ 11:01AM (14 years ago)

when we peons have to put in a court continuance (God forbid) we must give a minimum of 72 business day hours. We, however, routinely get served with less notice than this and sometimes the day of court with no notice at all. Is there anything in the contract or KRS against this?

if you want to see what our country is coming to with all this uncontrolled spending and socialist crap: Look at Greece right now. Our president is doing exactly what Jerry has done to bring down Jefferson County/Louisville for years.

Spread the word - we don't need king jerry with his hands in the cookie jar at the state level.
