I live outside of the county and I park my patrol car at the county line. I park at a location that was having problems with vandilism and theft. On my way to and from work, and court, I check and make sure there is nothing out of place at the location and the surrounding homes. And I actually prevented a burg II at one home, (because I happened to be there and no other reason). The citizens around the area where I park have told me several times they are glad I park there because it serves as a deterrent.

I pay the same income taxes as any other officer that works on the dapartment. Granted that I do not pay property taxes, but keep in mind that the metro income tax makes up for the vast majority of the income for the city, where property taxes accounts for a smaller percentage. And for what I would be paying in property taxes would be only a fraction of the cost of gas that I would use in my patrol car if I drove it every day. Add it up.

Officers living out of the county do the exact same job and the others. We have not asked for anything.

Are you still paying for your car? Because i'm pretty sure that's a dead issue.

You misunderstand, I don't think ANY officers should be paying for the cars, but I don't believe the officers who live outside the county should be allowed to park them anywhere but at the division where they are assigned.

It helps ONE property owner, that wasn't the idea - the idea (and yes, I'm old enough to remember when the Omni car program started) was to get them out and around and moving, not parked behind a church for days on end. It's a lot of presence FOR ONE LOCATION. How about coming and parking on MY driveway, I live just a stone's throw from the county line? How do you get on the list to get a car parked at your home?

To retort:

1. I can't speak for all officers, but unless I am on a run or have a CIVILIAN rider in the car, I STOP - Alot... I would estimate three to four times a day actually.

2. Suuuuurrrrreee you had an FBI agent stop... SO they would have violated their own policies on the cars??? I think not.

3. I actually know of more troopers in town than KVE, but then again I work with them on a regular basis, so maybe you just don't know

4. Get past it. And when I stop and help all I expect is that you return the favor for someone else.
