Well said! even though I am registered as a Republican I never vote straight ticket. I always have believed in hiring the best person for a job, electing the best person to office etc... Unfortunaltely that rarely happens. My support as a Police Officer is unwavering. Having said that I do not blindly support every Officer (ie Hollingsworth) To do so would be foolish.

Even Robert White I agree with some of the time. I tell people all the time if I disagree with him 50% of the time that also means I agree with him 50% of the time. If someone makes a mistake or because of different circumstances decides to change their mind there is nothing wrong with that. Bill Lamb has supported us on more issues than he ever disagreed with us on. I respect him and his opinions. He has been a guest speaker at our Lodge and will be again. He has a common sense approach that I wish our politicians would emulate.

Here is the story he had the other night:

Saturday Night Shooting Was Justified (2/9/10)

Unfortunately, what happened to Donnie Miles Saturday night in the Iroquois Homes apartment complex is a sad story we've heard too many times before.

After Miles menaced a neighbor with a large hammer, the police were called. When they responded, he came after them with the weapon. And after first using Tasers and tear gas to try to subdue him – to no avail – they shot and killed him.

Now, as usual, the second-guessers have emerged, accusing the police of over-reacting. And, as usual, they are wrong.

I've said it before, but it bears repeating: When you are misbehaving and the police tell you to stop, it's an order -- not a suggestion. And if you choose to disregard it, you are responsible for what happens next.

Of course this incident was a tragedy. But the critics fail to grasp that it was a tragedy for everyone involved, including the police. Can you imagine the trauma of knowing you've killed another human being? Do people really think these officers got together afterward to celebrate their marksmanship skills over a round of beers?

Police officers aren't machines. They're people just like you and me, with families to come home to every night – assuming they make it home. And when someone threatens their ability to do that, I know whose side I'm on.

But how do you see it? Call us, and share your opinion.

I'm Bill Lamb, and that's my…Point of View.

Excellent post! I supported officers on the take home car issue, because it makes good financial sense - but I do disagree with officers who live outside the county being permitted to drive them to the county line and park 'em. If you choose to live outside the county, that's OK, but understand that you won't get a take home - since that defeats one major purpose of it - to get cars ON the streets of Louisville, not "guarding" a church parking lot. (Remember, in many parts of the U.S., you MUST live in the city/county you police.) However, it doesn't help when I've been sitting on the side of the road and been passed by upwards of six marked units, NONE of which stopped, and none of which appeared to be going to any emergency run. At least three were in regular clothes. People NOTICE this stuff, and even if YOU don't do it, tolerating your buddies doing it causes a black eye for all of you.

With respect to the shooting, and in fast, most of the major "use of force" situations, I'm absolutely behind LMPD.

I do find it interesting that the Marlowe story has been essentially ignored by posters.
