I hope someone comes after you with a hammer and it gets dismissed because it's not a weapon.

Really???? Because the only people that have ever resisted arrest are the ones that were shot by police? I guess I wasn't told that resisting arrest is not a valid charge anymore because I should have shot and killed the person. Give me a break. You sound like a bitter person who has absolutely no clue about police work, that or you're J-Thunda trying to tell us "don't be hurtin dem babies" You weren't there so STFU!

"LEGALLY a hammer is NOT a registered weapon! "

Excuse me, but your terminology, as well as your intended statement are wrong.

What is a "registered" weapon?

If you are referring to it as a "deadly" weapon then you are wrong on both parts.

Without trying to be "politically correct" and brutally honest, the simple fact is HE DID DESERVE TO DIE.

I am glad he's dead because anyone that stupid DESERVES TO DIE when they threaten another life. Because the policeman had a gun or simply because he was a policeman doesn't give him the right to shoot someone who is armed with a hammer? If the man was approaching your son, daughter or wife would you shoot them if you could? If you say no, you are a LIAR.

No, I'm not a cop, nor am I some blind supporter of police actions, but it makes me literally ill to hear people defend the actions of society's trash instead of those who have to "take it out".

What constitutes a deadly weapon is the way in which the object is used. Some things are inherently a dangerous weapon because the primarily purpose of the object is to kill or injure. The primary purpose of a firearm is to kill, that is the purpose for which what it was originally intended; therefore, it is inherently a deadly weapon. The primary purpose of a knife is to cut, but it may easily be used to kill; therefore, it is inherently deadly even though it has many useful purposes that do no include killing or injuring. Hammers, pans, and pencils have original purposes that do not include killing or injury, so they are not inherently deadly even though they may be used to kill or injure.

"Registered weapon", What are you talking about? There is no weapons registration in Kentucky. Are you saying a hammer can't cause serious injury or death as defined by the Kentucky revised statues. Maybe you should look at double-homicide in Louisville a couple of years ago, where a mother and her son were killed by a dumbell weight. How do you know the officers should not have shot the guy? Were you there? While experience is a great thing, it does not mean a veteran officer would have done anything different. As at matter of fact. if you look at the post on this page, there are veteran officers commenting that rookies were not quick enough to shoot, because they tried some less-lethal weapons. In general the police officers are a lot more professional today, than a couple of decades ago when it was a common practice to drink on duty, gamble and have sex on duty, and shoot at fleeing felons. That was probably the time period your family members were officers.

Swat, is not Swatt, btw... and if you think you can do a better job get off your butt and do it.... your probably a pencil pusher desk job person with no life, that's why your here complaining. I dont think no officer, weather they are a Detective like your family was or not has to deal with someone coming at them with a Hammer, that's a deadly weapon my friend, let someone come at you with a hammer and see how you think. Geeezzz i dont know why you cop's just dont quit and lay down and let these criminals pack this city off, maybe if you do you'll get the much needed support from the rest of us law abiding citizens who appreciate what you do and dont criticize what happens in a critical moment. Make's me sick to read what these stupid idiot people write on here. If they are so brave and would have handled it differently then let them get off their butt's and do your job. Opinion's are like A#$holes, everyone's got one and some are bigger than the other's.

You sound like a 12 year old, you know that right?

Legally a hammer isn't a "registered" weapon? What the h? I assume you are saying by definition a hammer isn't a weapon so I'll just give you a few other things that aren't defined as weapons but can be used as such: kitchen knives, heavy weights, brooms, baseball bats, CARS!! (ever heard of vehicular homicide? i'm pretty sure cars aren't "legally registered weapons" either)

And how do you think veterans became veterans? They were once rookies. Nothing you said even makes sense. And I'm pretty sure your former cop family members (if that's even true) would strongly disagree with your "insightful" thoughts on this matter.

I do like your spelling of SWAT though. That made ME pee my pants for sure. So thanks for that :)

There are many things wrong with this post. The whole "registered weapon" thing is ridiculous. There is no such thing as registering weapons....like the karate man's hands as deadly weapons. Secondly the training our younger Officers receive is excellent. As a veteran Officer I can say they received more and better training than I did. My experience in matters such as this would not have made a damn bit of difference except that I probably would have shot sooner...having been in situations like that before.

GREAT JOB GUYS! Douchebags don''t go home in these situations..we do.
