How is pointing out a crooked cop "abusing the police?" Are you saying it is OK to charge people when there is so much exculpatory information available to show they did NOT do it? Lying about how "sure" a victim was on an ID. Makes ALL cops look bad, but that isn't the fault of the media, it is the fault of the OFFICER. Saying she couldn't go to court on Fridays because that would interfere with her OFF-DUTY job? LMPD is her FIRST job that makes it possible for her to have the second job, and the first job takes priority. If she didn't want to go to court, maybe she shouldn't be a detective.

Sure the cops went into Standard Gravure on Sept. 14, 1989, but so did CJ security guards and EMS. Cops should be allowed to do such illegal things now because 20 years ago, a couple of brave cops went into a building after a nutcase with a gun?

I agree with you about the force and training issue, but for that, you have to look INTERNALLY and ask why YOUR agency does it.

I have to agree with some of what you wrote.

I too can remember LPD officers forming into teams and entering the Standard Gravure building and searching for the maniac (wesbecker) who had just killed so many of his former co-workers. I also remember our Mayor coming to the scene and ensuring he had photos of him "helping" ems... Which is funny, because several other politicos has actually been doing "real" help by getting water and checking on EMS, FIRE and POLICE at the scene. This was a moment that made many of us want to be police officers.

But I digress, it happens when you get older. Our officers now are highli intelligeny, and far more intellectual than when I came on. Many have combat experiences that shame many of our own service times. However the department no longer teaches distractions techniques, two/three man take downs, or really the level of ground fighting that it once taught on both sides (LPD and JCPD). I am not sure if they teach much on Verbal Judo anymore - using your mouth to calm the situation. Is this bad? I don't know, but I do know I still have the confidence of going into a scene with most of the officers I work with, and that seems to be enough for now.
