Being shot responding to a domestic call, for one, the types of things that are only relevant and limited to the occupation. I dont consider traffic accidents limited to cops. I dont consider a cop dropping his service gun, it discharging and killing him, a line of duty death, even if he was at work at the time. That is something that ANY firearm owner would be subject to.

I dont consider the lard a$$ in Schaumburg Il who had a heart attack after running a block, even if it was while working, line of duty. That death was caused by poor health, not the job.

For comparison, a trucker in a vehicle accident in which the truck was the major factor in his death, for example, high winds blowing a truck over and resulting in a crash would be line of duty for a trucker. Steer tire blowouts are line of duty for a trucker, and most usually result in a fatal wreck. Blowing a tire on his personal vehicle, even if resulting in his death would not be line of duty.

Ill add that there is a difference between line of duty death, and heroic death. Heroism is used all too commonly and frankly, it detracts from the honor of a true heroic act.
