Officer safety is less important to officers than you realize. GPS transponders which cops have decided that they wanted prohibited in their contracts, would be a vital help to officers. from coordinating a vehicle pursuit for dispatch, to locating an officer who may have been debilitated in any situation.

However, because they could also be used to monitor officers locations, and things such as speeding, you have deemed them a bad thing, and had your union fight to make them prohibited in your contracts.

A GPS would not have helped any of the last several officers killed in the line of duty, but having an additional officer with them could have saved several lives. The city is knowingly putting lives at risk. That may come back to bite them in a lawsuit the next time someone gets shot.
