The problem with your above statement "you are paid with public taxes to provide services" is that none of them receive the pay they are entitled to. In the LMPD orginzation they are not allowed to claim overtime they are due. They have routinely given up raises during contract bargaining with the tyrant mayor dangling the take-home cars like a carrot over their heads. The employees of this city can only take so much. I choose to work here not for the money but for my desire to give back to my community. If anyone did this job for the money they wouldn't work here. Dispatchers are making around 19/hr. while most officers are only bringing home 20/hr. Kind of sad when your the one more likely to be shot. Last week the mayor took away the tuition reimbursment program as well. Most professions have benefits but as of late can anyone tell me what "benefits" remain for these officers? What the mayor has gotten rid of he has. Even after receiving federal bail-out money which could have saved some of the best benefit programs.

I say the Mayor can take what he wants away, but at the same time he should provide the same basics that would be expected of any other employer. If you contractually agree to certain benefits you should provide them. If an officer works 2 hours past his/her shift he/she should get paid their due, just like you or any other joe/shmoe citizen. These are hourly employees, not salaried. Why should the mayor be able to break state laws?

People keep pointing out to you that any gun shot can be life threating, and you keep saying it's not. Just because doctors later declared it as such it is impossible for an officer to determine it at the time of an incident.

Yes they are here to provide services but that doesn't make them servants.
