I'll agree six cops aren't necessary to block off one exit ramp-- but the nature of the job is that co-workers are worried and want to somehow be part of assisting in some way. That's my take on it.

However-- I do have one argument for you. Erin Harper's daughter (then 2) was RUSHED via multiple police escorts to the hospital when she was found shot and still living. The cops knew the ambulance would take too long so they put her in the backseat of a cop car w/ an EMT f/ the fire dept and rushed to the hospital with all kinds of cop cars blocking off the road for them. They saved that little girl's life. I would hardly say she didn't get the same treatment I've seen cops get when being rushed to the hospital. As a citizen, I don't have a problem with an officer being rushed that way to the hospital. They got injured protecting our community from scum, so I say block off all the exits that are necessary. Is it that important to you that traffic got a little backed up? What a sad commentary on our society.

And just to be clear-- in a situation like this, it's not just a regular taxpaying citizen that got hurt in some car accident or had a heart attack at home, it's an officer of the law that got injured PROTECTING all of us. I'm not even a cop but I took personal offense to your "After all it is the taxpayers dollars that keep the roads repaired and they couldn't even use the road during the transport!!!!!!" quote-- Are you kidding me with that?? COPS PAY TAXES, too. Hence, they are taxpayers. Hence, they are in the group of taxpayers you are referring to as paying for the roads. And if a cop ever had to God forbid get transported in a cop car, then you really couldn't say anything, cuz they pay for those, too.

You have no clue what the hell you are talking about. You are a SHEEP!!!!! Get your facts before you POP off at the mouth and write things that you have no clue about. Your right most police officer who get shot as far from the hospital as she was would have been airlifted by stat flight but she had to be driven. Do you remember Erica Hughes...OH yea she got the roads shut down for her on the way to the hospital. Go hug a tree you IDIOT! YOU'RE A P.O.S and should have your ******** kicked!!!

Awww, were you inconvenienced. You probably cut into funeral processions too. FYI, the roads were closed down for Erica Hughes too. She was the 2 year old that was shot mutliple times if you recall.

I remember being downtown when the officers were chasing the stolen car w/ the 4 juveniles inside that wrecked. EVERY road was blocked by a cruiser, and EMS had at least 4 cars escorting it. Those were not "regular" tax payers. At the time, the officers only knew them as felons in a stolen vehicle. Those officers went from trying to catch a criminal, to trying to save their lives! Yeah 6 cars is a little excessive, but if something like this happened to one of your family members you would understand. Think about your harsh words against the police, cause one day you're going to need them, and they will be there for you.

If you hate the police so much, why do you even take your time to get on their website?

--A "regular" tax payer that doesn't mind waiting while an injured officer is transported to the hospital.

YOU ARE A GENUINE P.O.S.!! HERE'S WHY SHE GOT THE TREATMENT SHE GOT AND YOU WOULDN'T. BECAUSE YOU ARE NOT EXPECTED TO FIGHT A NAKED, CRAZY MAN AND FIGHT FOR YOUR OWN LIFE AT 8AM.. PLEASE ENJOY THE BLANKET OF PROTECTION SHE GIVES YOU WHILE YOU SLEEP AND WE'LL KEEP TAKING CARE OF OUR OWN. I'M JUST SAYIN',,,

ANDREA, PLEASE GET WELL SOON!!

many of those cars were off duty as for the what time this happened. It was around shift change. Officers went on their own time to do this and follow procedure. As for if we do this for the citizen, YES we have when requested from EMS. We have also made blood runs on the expressway to help save someones life. We are taxpayers also who pay to repair the roads.

Wow, the original poster of this little gem amazes me! I'm sure he wishes all traffic laws had been obeyed also. You are probably someone who calls 911 to report a barking dog or a parking issue. I for one am glad you no longer live in Jefferson County, therefore you dont pay taxes here, therefore you are not entitled to speak on actions that may have saved an officer's life! How about the next time you or a loved one get shot, you forget to call 911!

I GUESS YOU ALSO BELIVE EVERYTHING YOU READ IN THE PAPER . AS FOR BEING A FORMER COUNTY RESIDENT ....GREAT STAY OUT . YOU STATED THAT WOULD WE DO THIS FOR A REGULAR CITIZEN THE ANSWER IS YES WE HAVE AND STILL DO, WEVE TRANSPORTED A CHILD JUST LAST YEAR ( IN A POLICE CAR AND BLOCKED THE ROADS ) AS FOR COURT WE HAVE NO CONTROL ON WHAT THE COURTS DO IN CASES. WE GET JUST AS MAD WHEN THEY LET SCUM BACK OUT ON THE ROAD. AND MOST DO GO TO COURT YOU SAW IT FRIST HAND BECAUSE MOST OF THE OFFICER YOU SAW WERE ON THERE WAY TO COURT.. PROCEEDURE WAS FOLLOWED.

TO THE WRITER OF THIS COMMENT -MOST OF THE OFFICERS INVOVED IN THE ESCORT WERE OFF DUTY OFFICERS THAT JUST GOT OFF OF THIER SHIFT, AND YES SOME WERE OFFICERS EVEN GOING TO COURT.SO THIS DID NOT EFFECT ANY OF YOUR TAXPAYING MONEY (BY THE WAY THE OFFICER THAT WAS SHOT WHILE PROTECTING THE CITIZENRY IS A TAXPAYER TOO)
