Abramson's lordly ways

With all due repect, when will people realize that the public does not care about us or what we think is best? It's sad but true, they don't care about what we percieve as "our problems". They have no sympathy when it comes to paying for a car, health insurance, raises, etc. They don't care, they have their own problems in times like these.

Hey Billy, in this process we are in I feel we have to do what is right. My view of right may be different from yours, I do not know. What we do know is the view of the City. They have made their view very clear. They would rather make their employees suffer instead of taking other viable options. We can not keep waiting and then respond to others, whether that is the City, some Judge or arbitrator. We must decide what is done. It is obvious from the meeting last night the Executive Board will not or can not make those decisions for us. We must make the decision ourselves. When our children make a bad decision we do not wait until February to correct them. We correct them immediately and sometimes severely so we do not validate the decision. We must do the same with the City. They made a bad decision and we can not wait until February to correct them. If we are keeping score on wins and losses we lost last night and we can not let that continue if we ever hope to win in the future. The only power the City has over us is the take home cars. We must take that away from them. I know it will be a burden to many but the time has come. Those working off duty and living in free apartments need to explain the dilemma to their employers and I feel they will understand. I have never expected anyone but myself to be responsible for my family?s well being. Some have allowed the City to have control of the financial purse at home. We can not expect them to have the vested interest that we have in our homes. It is never wise to budget on overtime or off duty work. Off duty work has always been in the hands of the Mangers and it can go away any day. We must be careful not to give them another source of power over us with off duty. I am not angry with anyone including the City. I do not get angry when my children do silly things. I do get disappointed. I was disappointed with the Executive Board for not leading us. The time for polls and briefings with Council Members is before the meeting not after. I also was disappointed with the behavior of some Board members in reference to interrupting people and manipulating motions. I am disappointed with people that slam the Mayor every chance they get and then support Him on His actions. One can not be a Revolutionist and a Tory at the same time. In a team the needs of the team must out way the needs of the individual. I have truly had enough so on December 31, 2008 I will park IBM number 6737 at the Sixth Division. Respectfully Submitted Rick Wooldridge
