Abramson's lordly ways

December 14th, 2008 @ 4:50PM (16 years ago)

Magnifigue!

Here is another one for the records. Naval Ordinance Plant was given to the City and they are the sole owners of the property. In 2004 Abramson said we need to get out of the rental property business so he gave once again without anyone's approval the right's to manage and collect revenues of the technology park to Titan LLC. An impressive name with for a corporation consisting of only 2 individuals.

Coincidentally, Titan is represented by the Law Firm of Brown, Frost Todd that Abramson is a member of.Hmmmmmm..... It gets better though. Abramson gave them a 99 year contract and they get to keep 97% if the profits for managing the property. So, as an example let us say that they collect 1 million in rent. Instead of that million dollars going into the city coffers, we only get 3% of it!

Oh by the way I forgot to tell you that Abramson also authorized 3 million dollars worth of concrete work done pouring new floors shortly before his magic pen gave away city assets.

People ask where are money is going and why we are broke? I am sure further examples will shortly be posted on this website.

Re: Abramson's lordly ways

December 14th, 2008 @ 5:14PM (16 years ago)

Abramson is as out of touch with reality as Marie-Antoinette when said about the lack of bread during the 1793 flour shortages in France, "Let them eat cake" While the Louisville economy suffers primarily due to his blunders and overspending he has chosen to "TAX" all the government workers.

He cried that if people don't chip in then he was probbably going to have to lay off 150-200 people. Why haven't we heard from some of his high rolling buddies? How come none of them have stepped up and donated some money? If there is indeed a shortage, which many have doubts about anyway, then why the immediate rush to plug the dike with worker dollars?

His claims that spending bond money isn't comming our of the budget is true. It isn't comming out of this budget, but it is like a credit card. It may not seem like you are not spending anything, but the bill will come due.

He made no negotiations with emplyees and union groups. He simply told them what he is going to do. Most employees will suffer 4 furlough days throughout the year. He could just have easily made these furlough hours done a few every pay period so no one will have to go hungry or not pay a bill that week. This equates roughly to a 1.2 to1.7% pay cut for most employees.

The Police on the other hand, those ungrateful whiners, who through his largeese have received 0% and 2% raises every year since merger must have really irritated him because his plan for them to pay for the privelege of having a take home car will now cost them 4-5% of their take home pay.

Why aren't those who voted for King Jerry paying for his corruption and mismanagement of city funds? Why are first responders, and the people who support them, the only ones paying for HIS dirty deals? The people that keep voting for Abramson, the takers, should be ashamed. The MERGER was only so Jerry could be mayor longer - not for the benefit of the Jefferson County. If you folks don't realize this, then we are all done for and may as well follow Castro and his brother. The givers are all cashed out. Who is left to fund this tyrant? If you were mislead by this dictator, redeem yourself and vote him out at the next election!!!!!!!!!!

Tax those that voted for this self-serving fool

I will not be degraded and dishonored by this administration while the Mayor is having a press conference I noticed 6 city workers putting up Christmas lights with generators and a big sign saying happy holidays. We again are our worst enemies. When the first outrageous price was proposed we all said no way. Now a carrot on the stick to divide and conquer us. Think about it. Think about the Mayors prior actions and its a no brainer. We have a much better chance if we stand together than divide and look weak. Call EMS and the firefighters and ask to come to the meeting and hold signs support your local heroes. I am sick of everyone?s excuses I am going to ride my bike to work in uniform or hitchhike

Let us use this web forum to unite instead of telling your personal problems. Give some ideas and information to make our cause and solve our problem. Believe me a lot of non police look at this so be professional. Once we divide we will be much worse than we are now. Look at the Mayors record with the police. You think it will change?

I am not trying to divide but unite.

2010 Election

December 14th, 2008 @ 7:45PM (16 years ago)

We need to remind folks of all his mis-deeds in may of 2010. He always finds a way to look like as hero around election time. If we then run ads and TV spots it seems it may be more effective. With his honor p-ing off ALL city employees now it may not be as hard to beat him. We have to remind the public of all his bad deals and under the table deals and show how he has run this city into the ground.

Someone (AJC???) needs to talk to Rebecca Jackson and get her to run. She has a good name and was always good to the county folks. She apparently has nothing better to do since she just retired from The Crusade. If she doesnt want to maybe we should try Anne Northup. She always gave this city money when we needed it. She has not had much luck with the Senate lately so maybe she could try for Mayor.

Who besides the KY AG is the investigative body that would look into these allegations? Unfortunately, I know for fact, the KY AG Office can't deal with an investigation of this nature. They have a Public Corruption Unit that has one investigator. I would like some answers on these allegations. It is time for the administration of this city to open the records to the citizens of this community and allow us to see where the money is actually spent. I simply feel that we are all missing the big picture. There is a problem in this city. It starts at the top. I am sure there are people in all the media markets reading these posts. Make a name for yourself and do some digging. There are even high ranking people in the community named as co conspirators. Seek and you will find. At the very least the council should have some oversight into the city's financial obligations. This is a insane interpretation listed as the reason the mayor can do what ever he well desires. Come on, this is begining to look a lot like dictatorship. I have not even begun to touch on how the Republican side of the council is continuously manhandled by this guy even in news accounts. Could you imagine dealing with him face to face. It would be an uphill struggle to say the very least. Just one point of view from the couch. Have a good Sunday Night Football Game!

Question about the meeting:

What about the officers working tuesday night? If there is a vote we won't be able to cast ours. Just like the last meeting those of us working had to wait until it was over to findout what was going on, what was voted on, and how the vote turned out.

I was not able to attend the last one and I will not be able to attend this one because someone has to stay on the street. If there is some type of vote some of us feel we have no participation at all.

Just curious.

Sorry for being off topic

You know, if every Metro employee has to have "skin in the game" then why is my pound of flesh greater than everyone else's? I don't believe any Metro Employee should be furloughed or have to pay for any of his self created budget problems, but the books show that it is the last and only way to avoid it then so be it. Make me an offer comparable to what every other Metro Employee is going to pay, not 3 1/2 times what they are. I figure if you want to charge me 50 a month for both take home and to include off duty that would be fair. That would be about what 4 furlough days would come to.

Remember that if the cars are gone then crime will rise and it will only be outpaced by the skyrocketing cost of 400 to 500 new vehicles every year instead of the 100 that they currently put into service. Simple math says that if a car costs $20,000.00 and you order 100 per year your fleet is costing 2 million a year. Multiply it by 5 and that is about what a fleet will cost every year instead without the take home car program.

Don't forget the maintenance costs also will greatly increase. I currently have my car serviced about every 3 months or so. If the cars are run hot 24 hours a day then they will be in the shop for preventitive maintenance(oil changes) and brake jobs. Parts cost then will also increased proportionatly.

And I remember Nixon, being quoted as saying "When a president does it, it is NOT illegal."

OK so i paraphrased it from memory, as this wasnt important enough to really do the research. Point remains the same, clean up your own house before you focus on exposing the inequities of the mayors office.

This is the classic case of two dishonest entities arguing over who is more dishonest.

Southfield's training academy. 62 acres of prime real estate in eastern jefferson county that he sold for 1.2 million to one of his buddies at a private meeting. The land was worth 5 times that at least.

Police Helicopter. Sold for $800,000 and left the community without one for almost 2 years now because the one that is wrecked he cashed the insurance check and won't pay the company that fixed it. Suprisingly enough they won't give it back till they get their money. Go figure!

That's my 2 cents worth. Let's see some more examples of his corruption!

With my appolgies to David Allen Coe, I would like all of you to sing along with the old Johnny Paycheck song, C'mon you all know the tune......

Take this car and shove it I ain't driving it no more

The mayor done screwed me an took all the reasons that I was driving it for

Ya better not try and stand in my way

Cause I'm walkin' out the door

Take this car and shove it I ain't driving it no more

Well working in this here city for now onto fifteen years

All of this time, I watched our city drownin' in a pool of tears

Ive seen a lot of folks lose their raises who had a lot of bills to pay

I'd give 'em the shirt right off of my back because NOW I have the guts to say...

Abramson's lordly ways

Has anyone else noticed that Abramson's perceived $20,000,000.00 projection coincided with the 20 million dollar fine he has to pay the firefirghters? I wonder if he would have paid this back in 1995 when it would have cost only a couple of million if he would have had have a projected shortfall back then?

Funny how late at night these things cross your mind.

The fact still remains and I don't think people are looking at it this way. king jerry wants to get rid of the take home fleet and we would be up in arms even more if he was telling us that, so he gets us to get rid of it for him, he gets his way regardless of what we do, and we are the ones who did it not big bad jerry. Then in the press all he has to say is the officers chose to park them instead of pay the "reasonable" fee associated with having a take home car in these hard economic times. Then it is US not him that look bad in the eyes of the public. No I do not think this is fair by any means, Just trying to look at this in a different way.

So let me get this straight.......If it is your desire to help a family in their time of grief and bring the killer of their loved one to justice as a Homicide Detective, you have to pay to do that ??? Only this administration could come with an idea that is that morally corrupt. Making the Police actually pay to come to work and go to court will surely lower the crime rate and make the community safer. Let's charge the garbage men 75.00 per month to come to work and see how high the garbage can pile up. As the Police, we expect this treatment from this administartion but the public should be apalled.

LMPD take-home cars could be sold if officers do not keep them

Fox 41 News

Metro Police administrators have told officers that if they choose not to keep their take-home patrol cars, the city could sell them. Officers have until Saturday to decide if they will keep their cars or park them.

Chief Robert White has told officers if they plan to opt out of the take-home car program, they can't get back in the program and the city could sell the cars.

Riggs says, "As far as emergency response, that is not going to change. The only thing that will change is the ability of some people that will make that choice not to take their car home."

The FOP has scheduled a meeting with its officers Tuesday night to determine their next course of action.

If officers decide to opt out, they could be told to turn over their keys by January 1st.

All you people in specialty units, i.e. SWAT, HNT etc. should resign from those specialty jobs. When I was a young rookie a wise old cop told me "if people would quit volunteering for specialty positions the dept. would start paying officers to fill the slots". I wouldn't give them anything. Looking forward to 02/16/2010.

Infomercial

December 15th, 2008 @ 7:39PM (16 years ago)

OK, who was it that mentioned doing an infomercial? A well-thought out, short, video, or series of videos, about the reality of the situation? Maybe more than one - they need to be kept short. Post 'em up to YouTube, also. Surely we have people that are handy with that?

And for the record, stay away from the "having the cars keeps the neighborhoods safe" - since that REALLY turns off people who don't have a police car in their neighborhood. Let's face it, cops don't, as a rule, live in dangerous neighborhoods in the first place, and tend to clump up - I've seen places where their is a cop car in every other driveway. It's the one thing I keep hearing people say - the take home car program does me no good, no cops live in my neighborhood. Emphasize the stopping to do motorist assist, the Fern Creek HS incident, the ability to pick up runs on the way to work, and back, etc.

I SEND MY CONDOLENCES..

December 15th, 2008 @ 9:07PM (16 years ago)

First let me state that a grew up in louisville an loived there for 30+ years. I now lived on the outskirts of the city an i am very concerned in what i see going on in louisville.

I thought bro Jerry was a very good mayor 1st time around and i was glad to see him run again .Im not sure what Mayor Jerry's goal is but i suspect it is to make this the east coast "east L.A.". He bankrupts the city, mergers the city an county into a situation he cant afford or control he has abandoned the fire fighters an police officers. We have criminals shooting at police cars and street gangs an drugs at a all time high . I hope like heck that no police officer loses his life because the lack of police officers on the streets or because criminals feel Jerrys attitude that police officers dont matter an they try to take one out.

If anything good will come out of this its the fact that Most of jerrys pet projects (most of which he has great financial ties to or his buddies do) will be successful. Sure a new arena louisville doesnt really need will be built so jerrys buddies can build it.

ever since Mayor jerry has been in office ive heard rumors that he doesnt like the firefighters or police dept. using my own judgement i believe is 100% true,By people i have talked to in the dept's and actions i have seen. I am amazed at the potential louisville has but the management of it by politicians led by Jerry is driving the city to become what everyone who feared a merger would lead to. I do have some reservations that the economy is what has caused a 20million dollar shortfall. I bet it has something to do with it but theres been enough business's come an go that i feel the real reason of a shortfall is plain an simple #1 they are lying about money and #2 they mismanaged city funds.

Last but not least i wish we had a activist in louisville who would demand action and accountability and force the city(Jerry) to reveal the truth

I think there is a decent chance that this whole car threat with the Chief threatening to sell off or mothball most of the fleet may be the biggest bluff in LMPD's young history so far. Even if it's not, and they do what they are threatening to do, it's going to royally blow up in their face in less then a year anyway.

Abramson's lordly ways

December 16th, 2008 @ 1:49AM (16 years ago)

You know I get the impression that this administration is running scared. Why else would they be threatening to not pay for parking to come to work downtown, not paying for parking to go to court.etc..

I think they have painted themselves into a corner and don't know what to do. This Chief is so dag gone arrogant it makes me sick. His adjunct, office boy Riggs makes me sick. They say they are going to sell off city equipment?? Frac them! Let's see them try.

Let me tell you this Chief White. I don;t need the police car. You need me. All my equipment you can have back. Ask the young girl whose tire I changed for her last night if she liked that i had the extra equipment in the take home car in order to change her tire in the rain if she likes the program. Tell her that I won;t be carrying a floor jack and 4 way anymore because I will be driving a crappy pool car.

What plans do you have for all the MDT's that won't work in pool cars? Your crappy plan is falling apart on you. It is just like when you tried to make us buy our guns. If you would have asked us a lot of us would have done it. Nobody likes to be told what to do ESPECIALLY the police.

Abramson White are lying to the public. THey are telling them that public safety will not be put at risk when the take home car program is ended. They want everyone to believe that the OFfficers a voluntarily choosing to do this. No, I am not voluntarily choosing to do this. I have been forced into this by the Mayor and the Chief. I like my car. I like being able to have all my gear in one place. I know my first 3 years on LPD it took about a half hour at the begining and end of each shift to transfer stuff back and forth and then it was only the basics. I carry lots of extra gear, to better do my job. I won't have that luxury anymore. Sorry citizens of Louisvile. The blatant lies from Abramson and White and the mistreatment of the Officers and the threats have made this too much of a hostile work environment. I draw the line at having to pay to come to work. Nobody else will be paying this much, only the police.

My brother has been a Louisville Police Officer for 20 years. He works a total of 3 jobs to support his family. The mayor's proposed cuts are going to hurt my brother, and the many other police officers that are in the same situation. Police officers, firefighters, and emergency workers should be the LAST positions to face any type of cutback. These individuals do jobs that few others would do, and they are the FIRST to put their lives on the line for others. I see officers stopping to help stranded motorists all the time. Is that their beat? Or are they on their way to work? Are they on their way home? What about the peace of mind the public gets when they are out getting gas or a gallon of milk and they see a police car in a parking lot? That's the store I'm going in. Let them keep the take home cars and don't charge them outrageous fees to do so. They deserve them. It helps everyone in the community. Let the rest of the budget be reviewed, because there are many other areas that can be cut back.

On the radio this morning Jerry stated he is taking another pay day from city employees thats 4 days now, I guess he is going to keep milking them.

He also stated he was invited to go to the inauguration. I guess the employees are going to lose that extra day to help pay for his trip.

I'm not sure how how much weight the rumor about selling the cars has. But I can only assume how that would look in the headlines.

MAYOR SELLS POLICE FLEET

Somehow I don't see that happening. That would seem to be more of something he would have to explain. How many cities are there having to sell their Police cars because of the tough economy?

Just a random thought, It would just stand to reason it would be very bad for his PR

Any thoughts?

I'm sorry to see that so many of us are railing against each other. I know for me it will be a personal hardship to park the car, I've had one for over 19 years now, but....enough is enough. I'm tired of being threatened, I'm tired of hearing how spoiled we all are. The take home car program has been a blessing but it does come with a price. All those dates or appointments that I've been late for or just plain missed because I stopped for something. The number of times that I had to stop because something was happening right in front of me (never mind my kids were in the car) and I had to act. Well, I'm tired of it. I just want to go to work do my job and be left alone.....left alone by the mayor, the chief and the public. I've answered the questions about taking my family somewhere in the police car, ignored the snide remarks about how nice it must be to have a free car. Well, its not really free. It has cost me a few things over the years and I don't park it without a trace of regret. Park it I will though because if it cost the city so much to have that vehicle around when I'm off duty, then I want to do my part to help. I'll park it because it's not cutting back, it's generating funds for the city. I think all you know what you would do if a street thug threatened to do something to you if you didn't do what he wanted......you'd tell him to jump if he was feeling froggy......right, go ahead and call for back up and EMS cause its getting ready to get interesting. I don't take kindly to threats and if the city is feeling froggy it can start jumping. I'll be alright, and so will you.

A lot of people are claiming us to be spoiled and not willing to make concessions...well this couldnt be further from the truth. First of all, we are already paying for these cars each month. Paying for them is like leasing a car but the city still dictates what you can and cant do in them.

Other options were brought to the attention of the powers that be but were turned down and the only focus is in these cars. Do you know that the city paid $282,000 last year for only 500 department cell phones?? I dont know about you but I have my own cell phone and would be more than willing to give theirs back as a concession.

Also, I dont know about you but I can wash my own car. Does the city really need a car wash contract?? Im sure thats another 6 figure amount.

And also, are you aware the dept LEASES the chiefs vehicle?? Why cant he drive one of ours already in the fleet? Hope youre sitting down when I tell you the city pays $700 a month to LEASE his Ford 500!!!! Yes a Ford 500 not a porshe or Mercedes or BMW...a Ford 500......Thats $8400 a year the city could save.

These are just some concessions Im sure people would be willing to make that werent even given a second thought by anyone. Im sure if these concessions were made we could keep the price of the take home exactly where it is or lower it significantly from $100 and up. Other options were suggested...they just werent heard. The only thing they want to do is hurt us by making a ridiculous offer to keep the car. This frustrates me even more to know there are other options out there that are being ignored....PARK THEM!!!!!

Can I ask a question? The Mayor says he is going to give up 10% of his salary, correct? Is he going to give up the stipend he recieves form Leadership Louisville? What was that an extra $150 K a year?

And you Chief White, you are also giving up 10% of your $159,000.00 salary. Wait a second. Didn't you stay on after your 5 year contract ended? Oh I begin to understand. You have a pension from DC. I don't know how much that is. You have a pension from Greensborro, I don't know what that is. You have a pension form Louisville that Abramson paid into the pension plan the equivilant of a 20 year pension if you stayed 5 years. That had to be a tidy sum. Let's see you cashed that in last December so you are drawing a cool $75,000.00 a year pension plus 2 other pensions plus your $159,000.00 a year salary..ooops I mean you $145,000.00 a year salary I forgot you are going to take a 10% cut and try to scrape by on it.

You see they want everyone to think they are sacrificing when in fact they are not. The people that sacrifice are the EMS workers going to 12 hour shifts, the desk clerk losing 32 of her already meager pay, the sanitation worker who has to tell his kids at Christmas that he doesn't have enough money because Abramson is taking 8 hours pay form him the day after Christmas and there are bills to pay.

I do not quite understand the thinking behind the whole alienate the employee thing going on here. I was a senior NCO in the military before getting on the department. I drove my troops hard. I motivated them and praised them when they did well.

I chewed a butt a time or two when someone screwed up, but I knew that the mission got done because my people were motivated and strong because we worked as a team We counted on each other. I was the MAN, but I got results form good leadership, not from continually beating them down. I didn't harrass and threaten them. I didn't take away priveleges, passes or pay.

Why do White and Abramson think that morale won't ******** and job performance suffer because of it? Why can't they see that the slave who is beaten will someday rise up and throw off the shackles? They just don't get the fact that someone well treated will perform and produce much better thatn one degraded every day. Maybe it is because none of them have ever been in the private sector.

December 16th, 2008 @ 2:22PM (16 years ago)

Remember how the rumors flew around during the last contract negotiations. If we didn't vote it through, they might take our cars. Whether you voted for or against that contract, who cares....

Guess what...when this next contract rolls around, we won't have to worry about them taking our cars. That means, that we can vote "no" to any increase in health insurance. We can vote "no" to any pay raise that is less than the cost of living increase. Imagine what we'll be able to do once we get that giant take-home gorilla off our backs.

I think that the Feb decision was a good idea... I don't see how the mayor wins if we park the cars now. Whatever we would have done the mayor would have gotten his money and he would be sitting back laughing. This atleast gives a chance to win in feb and get our money back and keep the cars. This also gives everyone a chance to get thier ducks in a row and plan for Feb to park the cars. So everyone needs to start today and look into getting a car and getting thier finanical situation under control. I give it a very small chance that we get our money back and when that happens there should be no excuses not to park cars

December 16th, 2008 @ 9:14PM (16 years ago)

The plan advanced tonight at the FOP meeting is the adult, professional and logical way to pursue the matter. Let the legal process play out, see what happens and then make the decision about parking or not parking the cars. The immature crybabies who post on this board need to go back to their fourth grade playground where they cried and threw a temper tantrum when they didn't get their way. I, for one, am glad to see some maturity demonstrated by this Executive Board. And no, I am not related to anybody on the board and I actually really don't care for any sitting member. I also do not work in the Chief's office. I pay my FOP dues every two weeks just like everybody else and patrol the streets like the majority of us. I just have to give credit where credit is due. It's also a shame that people at the FOP meeting are threatened or harassed just for speaking their differing opinion. I thought we are supposed to be better than that... I guess not. Just thank God there wasn't any alcohol served!

How many of you see what you have done by pushing this vote off to Feb. Yes, I understand some face many hardships with housing and transportation but what did you get this job for when you applied? By waiting to February, you pushed this issue out of the public and other interested officials minds. They are going to think its a dead issue. Many already do!

Mark my words, in February either the decision comes back against us and then only 30% or less will turn them in OR the decision comes back in our favor and the Mayor just files an appeal. It took us until late February to have a hearng on something that has been transpiring for some time now (the $30/$60). How long will he tie this process up. Great, another retro check he can tax at a high rate! He only has to holdout until he's out of office or contract time which is only a few years down the road.

I DON"T have another car, but I am ready to buy one.

For now, while I wait on the "confused" guideance of my FOP. I will pay the money and continue to help citizens on my own time as usual, like I have for the last 17+ years. Except, I WILL be calling off as an X-Ray unit and entering my Overtime on PAM. I have never done this but i will now start.

Has anyone considered that parking the cars benefits the mayor and city more than paying a 100/mo to drive them? If the cars are turned in, a large number will be stored to replenish the fleet as cars are taken out of service. This will allow the city to possibly go two or three years without any capital expenditures for new cars. Yes, turning the cars in may send a message, but it also will save the city several millions of dollars by not purchasing new vehicles over the next couple of years. Fewer new MDTs and mobile video units will be purchased.

While the user fee will collect several thousands per year, turning the cars in will save the city millions over the short term.

I'm ticked about the way things are going just like everyone else. I am mad that I have not received a decent raise in 6 years while my insurance goes up and I am now paying to drive my car. I don't like that money is spent in this city without anyones approval and the Mayor says he has the power to do anything he wants as long as it benefits the city. I dont like how the Powers That Be make us look like we are whining and complaining and that THEY are doing what is best for the entire city. I dont like the answers I get when I ask certain people why certain things are occuring. I dont like a lot of things right now but I think it will not hurt to wait til February to see what kind of miracle we can pull off. Thats not dividing the FOP in my opinion (please respect everyones opinion right now) but it is not a knee jerk reaction to the Bullies that are telling us what we have to do.

If nothing gets accomplished by the end of February then I say we all park them. Maybe something will happen before then and we will be able to keep them without having to work 7-8 hrs of off duty work just to afford them. If we already turned them in it might complicate things a bit if the process sides with us. Let the process take its course and if then we are not happy then park the daggone car. I would love nothing more than to crash mine through city hall and leave it. But that would not be practical. We need to keep up whatever image we have left with the public and make it look like we are trying everything we can to avoid this situation. If we all tell the CITY to stick it you know the general public will side with Uncle Jerry and we will be no better off than we were before. Please think about my last sentence and for the love of God please stop bickering with each other on here. Thats what THEY want. Don't give them the satisfaction.

I don't claim to be able to see the future, but here is what I see more then likely happening. I did happen to be on the side that wants to wait until February tosee what happens in court, but I honestly think the odds of us winning in court are very slim at best. Then after we lose the membership will really split because the number of people that park their cars will be very close to the number of people that will want to stay in and pay for their own reasons. Then when the next fiscal budget comes out in a few months they will jack the rates up even higher like they wanted to in the first place and pretty much force the rest of the people still paying for their cars to now park them at this point and that will be the end of the take home car program. I hope all this does not happen, and I hope we can all stick together, but I hope you all are prepared for it to get a lot darker before it gets brighter. I just wish we had a clear direction and game plan with solid FOP leadership, but we don't and that is sad. Tonight there was no clear agenda or direction in the meeting, along with no real leadership. When times are tough and the Mayor and Chief are trying to divide us is when leadership needs to step up to the plate, and they have not. Myself and many other officers left feeling more confused then anything.

Why is it that getting a straight answer to a question with people in our leadership is more difficult then getting Jerry to admit his favorite thing to eat is sausage??

Let me start by saying I am not on the FOP board. I was not very pleased with the board last night however I wouldn't take that job for anything! We are all big boys and girls and when John finally told us the pros and cons of parking our cars, I think it should have been obvious what was best for us to do! When Turk spoke everyone listened and he made sense! Then Brad bounced up (and I like you Brad) and yelled his .........park the cars now, I don't care...and he split us again.......The board needs to meet and have a plan before they go up to the podium. They need to give both sides and then a reccomendation. I think because Brad was louder and more emotional then John, the crowd rolled with him. I went to to the February side. I just think it is the SMART thing to do right now! We will opt out if we don't win in February! It is now time to start the Public Service announcements and billboards...etc.....IT IS TIME! John, no one is going to like you right now.......just keep working at this and actually I am quite proud of the FOP for standing up to Jerry! You just need to organize better!

Check out the comments on the courier journal.....the citizens think we are cry babies! They don't understand that we haven't had a cost of living raise in 5 years, that we serve them off duty while driving their cars, the cars were a part of the reason why we don't get a decent raise and the list goes on! It is time to get the education out in the public!

frame the argument

December 17th, 2008 @ 10:10AM (16 years ago)

The FOP has mishandled this story since the beginning by letting the Mayor frame the argument on his own terms. It looks like they have gotten wiser and realized that when Jerry unleashes the press machine the best course of action is to stall and buy time until the real story comes out. That is why they put it off to February.

It is not an argument over the cars and how they help little old ladies with flat tires on their off time. It is not ungrateful public employees who don't feel a car deal for $100 per month is a great deal. It is not about hard economic times and we all have to suffer.

This is about a Mayor who has no regard for Labor Law or his employees. The police gave up compensation (raises) in order to receive alternate compensation (use of a car). They negotiated a contract in good faith and Jerry now wants to void the legally binding deal.

I think when they get to the mediator they will find that this was not a "privilege" as Jerry states but a negotiated benefit that is the subject of collective bargaining. Jerry has the right to take away the cars as the employer but if he does so he will be required to compensate for the loss.

The hard economic times argument has no merit to the rank and file members. They care deeply about thier community but when you are inside Metro Government and you see daily how much waste, ineptitude and corruption exists in this administration you lose compassion for this mayor.

This trucker clown has no idea, funny.

The internet does not make you safe sir, just like road rage you push someone enough... Alot of officers have had to stop an A** beating on the side of roads and in paring lots because someone let thier attitude override thier common sense.

There are some crazies out there sir, be careful. Oh one more thing, dont be mistaken, I"m not trying to threaten you at all, I don't care what you say here, but you have put yourself out there on this forum,it is a public forum, you have stated what you drive what part of town you live in and your e-mail address, please don't do that ok, I'm being for real. Just think about what you put on any site. Even more so being the way you enjoy debating subjects. I am just saying this because I don't think you realize how much you have said, and I'm not interested in making any kind of run to your home because of some physco wants to mess with you or your family.( But I will, and will rush to get there to help you) Don't let your frustrations take over. There are people out there that would hurt you to try to make us look bad. You seem very intellegent but there are things you are not used to dealing with. One thing about our job, we see stories unfold that are so unbelievable we could not make them up.

Again this is not a threat just a suggestion out of concern

Take care
