New police fees prompt racing events to be canceled

Yeah, really. What is up with sending 200 police to work some walk anyway? I ran a 5K the other day, and we all managed to get by with no police, road closures, or anything of the sort. Even if they did need to use road closures, do you really need police for that? Seems like a couple of barricades and race volunteers, or at worst traffic guards could handle that. At any rate, I notice that once again Churchill Downs manages to keep its teflon status.
