Placing The Blame

Obviously you're entitled to your opinion like everyone else but people should try and remember the old saying about walking in another mans shoes... I had my own opinions about cops and how they treat people before i joined the department several years ago. It took all of about two weeks for my opinion to do a complete 180, once I saw the abuse and bs we're subjected to on a daily basis. Its very hard to want to treat a person with respect when they show absolutely zero respect for us. I've been called every name under the sun, and a lot of the time this happens at runs where THEY HAVE CALLED US!!!! I accused of being a racist if I dare look at someone who is a different color then me. I'm sure your sons are fine citizens, but I'm personally sick and tired of being called to homes where parents expect us to raise their children because they're too afraid to do it themselves. Chief White wants us to go out there and be pro-active, but the department has made it perfectly clear with their past actions that we can expect no back up from them if we get complained on or sued, which is ultimately ends up happening to most good pro-active officers who actually try and get criminals off the streets. Our hands are tied everyway possible so please try and think of that before you call the officers who ride your area lazy....

before everyone chastizes this guy....he is right on a lot of points. The younger officers that work in that division, or a lot of the younger officers for that matter, have really bad communications skills. That is just the truth. I've got 15 years on, and some of the guys on my platoon talk to people like they're trash. I couldn't imagine being talked to in the way these guys are talking to people- thugs, witnesses, victims, it doesn't matter. -And they don't want to hear it if you try to help them out and say 'hey-you might chill out a bit'. I don't glad hand anybody, and I certainly ain't 'thug friendly', but i talk to people the way i want to be talked to...and it works
