Placing The Blame

RE: Placing The Blame

Maybe your police legal advisor can't tell you how to figure out what is going on behind closed doors, but I'm sure if more officers were more involved in their patrol areas instead of hanging out at Dairy Mart and Five Star and instead were actually patrolling their areas and getting to know the people they'd have a better idea of what is going on in the neighborhood. And why pick on where Chief White lives? You guys don't live in the ghetto either!

I raised 3 sons in Portland and they have all turned out to be great sons as well as law abiding citizens. They all work hard and have moved out of Portland. But -- when they were growing up they did do stupid things and I had reason to deal with cops from time to time and I would much rather have the old bunch that was in Portland, Towles, Schanie, Wardrip, Westcott just to name a few than I would the idiots down there now. They knew how to handle a situation and how to work with parents to help keep kids out of trouble. Now every patrol officer you meet thinks they control the world -- you cannot speak to them unless spoken to first -- and I am finding more and more that they are adding to the problems instead of addressing them in an adult way. I think that is what your Chief is trying to tell you. Not every citizen is a thug - I'm not asking you to hug me for sure - but it would be nice to be treated as a person instead of being cussed at and called a MF by a patrolman. This has personally happened to me more than once. I don't know of any other job where you are allowed to cuss out your clients. And the citizens of Louisville are the client of the Police Department. We hire you to protect us and to help us, not to cuss us out and look down on us because of where we live and treat us like trash. I was a stout defender of the police officer until about the last year and a half and I have lost all respect for most patrolmen.

And I seem to recall that all was not well when Hamilton was a police chief either.
