2. He should have been taking to the hospital (taken) past tense not present

I'm curious, you act as if the police are all knowing entities. You act as if they knew who this guy was and has the capacity to find out everything about him in 4 hours. You have no idea what you are talking about. There was an unknown male inside a bank with hostages brandishing a weapon and making demands. How would you have resolved it? How would you have found out who he was? Remember there was no car to run and he didn't give anything up.

What you think should be done and what can be done realistically are two very seperate things. The Police did not know it was not a real weapon. It looked like a real rifle. If it could have been settled peacefully then it would have been like all the other runs on troubled people the police make every day.

What you fail to realize is that this guy knew what he was doing and he wanted to have the police shoot him. How do you accomplish that? You come at a policeman with a weapon after he tells you to stop. This guy made a concious choice and no officer is going to take a chance that it isn't a real weapon and become fatality because of some nutbag.
