Bomb squad deploys robot at bank

Few will disagree that Police officers are expected to perform difficult and dangerous jobs. Those jobs take a heavy personal toll on their lives and on their families. If you have had to deal with the LMPD in the aftermath of a crime your experience may be either very good or very bad. Your experiences will shape your perceptions and attitudes.

The public perception about yesterday's events is negative, despite positive press coverage. The LMPD/SWAT team killed Mr. Ray unnecessarily. They were not defending themselves because they were not attacked by Mr. Ray. They did what they were told to do by the officers in charge of the operation. Chief White must be accountable for the decision to have Mr. Ray killed when he exited the bank with his BB gun pointed upward. Mr. Ray did not fire it.There was choice besides the use of deadly force. The dedication and honesty of LMPD/SWAT officers involved in this matter is not being questioned, only the intelligence system behind the chain of command. The public is entitled to question, understand, then accept or reject whether Chief White's statement to the effect that officers "acted within our policies".

I personally support LMPD actions to kill all bank robbers, all burglars, all car thieves, all rapists, and all criminals who make life miserable for those of us who have been victimized by their crimes. Many of us crime victims subsequently continue to be penalized by the lack of LMPD accountability as well as the ineptitude, lies and subterfuges of LMPD officers and extremely poor LMPD leadership.

Well I must say that you are one cold hearted person; to come on here and talk the way you have about a dead person and his family; I would refuse to work with you; you need some serious help { but I'am sure your an officer's wife over there in fairdale.}So I guess it was alright for mad dog to kill him being he was going to be dead by the time he was 20; Do you know how stupid you look. PLEASE.

I want to applaud all of the officers involved in the bank incident with Mr. Ray. Thankfully, no soldier on the thin blue line was hurt, only the individual that made a deliberate act contrary to law and public order. This individual was met with deadly force when he refused to comply with repeated orders to lay down his weapon and surrender to the lawful control of the authorities on site. It is unfortunate they way this incident turned out. None of us wish to be responsible for taking a civilians life, but will if forced to. PEOPLE, THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN PEOPLE DECIDE TO DO BAD THINGS AND DO NOT FOLLOW LAWFUL ORDERS FROM THE POLICE!

If the family of the man has no problem with LMPD's actions, then no one else has the right to complain.

I love hearing from stupid uniformed people that come to a police supporters website to post that the police are out of control. Don't you all have your own liberal whining website to post on?

I would like to point out to you that the police don't fgo around gunning down innocent people, if they did then a jury would convict them.

On a daily basis we make dozens of calls against consumers that suffer from some type of mental instability. Most are handled without having to use any type of force and the person is taken to the hospital, not to jail for treatment. The safety of the community and the safety of the officer comes before that of the person trying to harm them. I'm sure that if someone were attacking you though you would let them kill you before defending yourself.

I would like to add my thoughts for the Officers involved. It is never like on tv. They never tell you about the nightmares and depression tha comes from having to take such and action. Manytimes Officers are portrayed as knuckledraggers and brutes with a penchant for beating and killing. This is the fault of the media. This is also the fault of the small percentage of bad apples that every department either hires or developes.

What the media doesn't show you is that each Officer involved in shootings has a life outside this department. I have never had the medai interview me after church or out to dinner with my family or watching my kids play soccer. They forget too often that we live in this community that we protect and serve.

The picture in the Courier the other day was startling and realistic. They say a picture paints a thousand words. That one sure did. I have been in the military the police department and have had guns grew up around guns. Just looking at that picture and especially in the brief seconds where this guy came running towards the Officers it was impossible to tell if it was a pellet gun or a .22.

Anyone willing to take hostages is willing to do almost anything. This deranged soul made a concious choice to do what is popularly known as "SUICIDE BY POLICE" . May God have mercy on his soul.

I am keeping the Officers and their families in my thoughts and prayers.
