No matter how obvious it is to everyone else that the shooting was justified, there's always going to be at least one tool that says we should have "shot him in the leg" (or some other nonsense). Of all the police involved shootings that we've had over the years, you would think this would be the ONE TIME even the most liberal people would understand why it had to happen.

Regardless of how well profiled he was, a "mentally unbalance individual" can kill people just as easily as a traditional bank robber. The SWAT team, or any human being for that matter, is not obligated to wait until they are actually being fired upon to defend themselves. They are also under no obligation to determine whether that weapon was a real rifle or an air rifle, since the two can look identical from a distance.

P.S. Not to be nit picky, but you keep refering to "LMPD and SWAT" like they are seperate entities. Hopefully you realize these are the exact same people, just with differences in their roles and uniforms. Louisville does not have a full time SWAT team, they are made up of normal officers (with extra training) that are paged out when a situation like this occurs.

To Louisville's greatest arms expert that likes to flip through the news channels while kicking his dog and drinking a PBR, if you can tell the difference between a .177 caliber and a .22 caliber rifle that is held by a man in a jog, please by all means offer your expertise to our SWAT team during the next call out. Jerry thanks you...

It's called situational authority moron. The men on the front line were presented with a threat and dealt with it according to the choices that Mr. Ray made. We don't have to wait for approval when someone is running at us with a gun. Stick to watching CSI and Law and Order and leave the real work to the real life Police.

Every city has one, and you my friend our Louisvilles. I have a family to go home to every night and don't feel like it is my responsibility to see whether a BB or a real bullet is going to come out of some idiots gun. My number one goal is to come home safely to my wife and two boys. It is a shame that this gentleman had to die and I feel for what his family is going through. No body gives us (police) instructions when or when not to use deadly force, we use it when we feel that our lives are in danger. Every citizen has that same right, just a few of us decide to put ourselves in that position EVERYDAY so that chicken ******** like you can live a peaceful life and make stupid comments behind the safety of you computer.
