6 shootings in 48 hours, Is it time to bring back the Street Crimes and Gang Units?

Questions

1) Yes, we have a gang problem.

2) Remember, new chiefs always want to put their mark on the department, even if that means they get rid of something that is working.

3) As far as the media is concerned, he's an expert, he was an Asst. Chief and he does head up the school police - even though JCPS doesn't allow their officers to carry weapons. (Remember that, all you folks that are looking for retirement jobs - DON"T GO THERE - DON'T REWARD JCPS WITH YOUR EXPERIENCE IF THEY WON'T LET YOU EVEN CARRY A GUN.

4) Could training have trained enough officers to have allowed LMPD to hire more? I doubt it, to be honest, they are stretched thin as it is, and more trainers means even MORE able-bodied officers off the streets. They don't want to hire laterals from other agencies, although LMPD officers are quick to retire from LMPD and go to other agencies. (How many of you could meet the requirements that LMPD puts upon new recruits, or even lateral transfers, when they accept them? How would you feel if another agency forced LMPD retirees to go through the same hoops that LMPD requires? Trust me, policing isn't that much different in other cities, in fact, officers in other cities are required to do their own breath testing, collect their own evidence, lift their own prints, etc. I know that is a surprise to the retirees that go outside Jefferson County. Not to mention driving over an hour one way to stash a juvenile or a MIW.

5) Have you called and talked to YOUR council member about these issues? If not, why not? It's highly unlikely they are reading this site, after all.
