...that thought things were going well around here.

Obviously you weren't around back in the mid-to-late 90's either or you'd clearly remember that another Abramson hire, E Doug, ran the department in a similar fashion and both were similarly blamed by the troops for their inaction. This was about a couple of years after the sixth district was shut down and Lieutenants' jobs were eliminated. There was the same "f**k them" mentality coming from the front office that exists today. It's probably some kind of byproduct of the Peter Principle lab rats in the front office putting on airs that they actually are occupying these lofty positions because they are good at what they do. Maybe they are. I've never actually read or seen a transcript of what it is that Abramson requires of them.

So, no, Robert White isn't really to blame for the continuing downward spiral of the police department. The person who put him there is.

Another thing: even though Abramson tries and tries to run the police department like a factory, an intelligent and effective leader would recognize that his tactics are counterproductive. They only thing that a police department can market is judgement and attitude. Given that, any effective leader would try to nourish and improve it's only product. If he is unable, like a leader of any other entity, then he must be replaced. In that regard, how can anyone claim that White has been even remotely effective? And by extension, Abramson? Please, don't embarrass yourselves.

I want this merger thing to work, but I'm starting to feel like an employee of Yugo Automotive.

first of all the street crimes unit had different mission back in 96-97 so the basic mechinism for suppressing what causes the murders had'nt been created yet brightboy and secondly we would kinda not like to see OUR crime rate get as bad as some of those citys and finally i hope you end up with a overbearing , egotistical, liar for a boss just like us. oh and thanks for firmly supporting people who do risk their lives every day to make this community a safer place.
