I watched the different news broadcasts on this subject and I am not suprised by the comments from our chief and mayor. Both had statments to the effect that this feeling is only from a select few and not the dept on a whole. I do not have confidence in this chief or mayor. If either of them want to (or have the balls to) why don't you spend more taxpayer money on your own survey. Let your spi do it. They only have to ask 2 questions.....Do you have confidence in this chief? ... What are your feelings on the direction the dept is going? The only thing they would need to do to get honest answers is make it so no one knows who or which officer answered what way.

I know neither of them will do this because they know the results would be the same and it would only show this chief and mayor are leading us and the people of Louisville metro in the wrong direction.

I myself am a police officer, but not for Louisville. Our department's administration was much like Louisville's. However, it has recently changed. While I admire your department's determination to get your chief off his ********** or be removed (God knows WE tried), haven't you figured out by now that the chief, the mayor, and anyone else who can do anything about it don't give a damn what YOU think. If you want my advice, and take it for what it's worth, you're going to have to get the public involved. That's what will really hit home. Use these community and neighborhood groups to your advantage. When the citizens start to cry foul, that's when the news media and the politicians will really start listening. Your organization is either laying the groundwork for bigger things, or they're just wasting their time and breath.

What Chief White and the mayor frequenly forget or refuse to believe is that the enormously overwhelming majority of LMPD Police Officers are CITIZENS of this community. Not only do we deserve to have a say in the way this department is run and what direction it goes in but we as taxpaying citizens have a right to be heard and listened to.

Listen Chief and mayor I think I hear something...............................................................................oh yes, it's the same silent majority that Senator Kerry ignored. Ask him about us.

There were a number of comments from officers about Major Wiley. At least two officers in my district had comments about Major Pearce's failures and why they left the old Baker district and went else where. Why weren't these included? Pres. Dodson said this wasn't about the majors or command staff. If you want to print items critical of Major Wiley, fine. She earned them. But she is not the only unpoplar major nor the only major who demonstrated a lack of leadership or integrity. Other officers who sent in surveys had comments about Racist Jay, Major David Ray, and the Lt. Col.s. Why not have all the comments typed up and put on the web site. One of Chief White's biggest failures is to hold his top people accountable. Major Wiley should answer for the increase in homicides in her district. Major Pierce should answer for his mistreatment of black officers and allowing the increase of violence in Newberg and Norfolk. Major Ray should answer for his heavy handed treatment of the late watch officers in David District. Affected officers from these districts all responded, but we only see bring back street crimes and we need more narc's. Why is this?

The chief is a failure. His decentralization plan has failed the police department and citizens alike. His choice in command staff, save col. conrad, is a failure and he is a failure as a leader. A true leader would not let this situation get as bad as it has. It makes me sick to see him on tv all innocent saying hes just trying to clean up an undisciplined department, trying to make us look bad while he puts on an innocent face. THAT IS NOT THE ROBERT WHITE WE SEE. The one we see is the the one that comes up with great catch phrases like "I got snitches and pimps throughtout this department" and "all yall can quit". And why is wiley brought up so many times, because she is a huge failure! At least white can ACT like a leader sometimes, she is horrible all of the time, no common sense whatsoever. Why does wiley get to be involved in chargeable accidents and not be reprimanded like the rest of us chief? A true leader would lead by example and expect the same from his staff, you are not a leader. PLEASE RESIGN!

Once again the officers of this department have demonstrated they are more likely to just complain about a problem than to take any action that might require a little effort on their part. All the complaining over the past year and the FOP gets only 50% of the surveys returned, well maybe 50%. The media, chief, and the mayor are certainly seizing upon this by calling the results a "fraction" of or a "small part" of all the officers. I think the survey lost any teeth it might have had even before its release. What now FOP? The media is in the sack with Mayor Jerry and the chief. They do not care about this survey and it is not going to do anything. It is time for the FOP to start protesting in front of the mayor's, home & office, outside conventions, concerts, & shows. You all have been divided & conquered!

I have to express my serious disappointment. 1,000 surveys and 500 responses--no wonder the public doesn't join in on our fight to have this boob removed.

The factual responses though, contrary to news outlets, show a horrible review of his perfomance. His ego has not been affected by the survey and he will remain in place further destroy this department.

I was not at all supprised with some of the comments from the no confidence survey.

One said he waited 13 minutes for back up on a code 3 run. 13 mintues!

It's no wonder LMPD has developed a KSP mentality on runs. KSP sometime will have one trooper for 3 counties. So is it a wonder that within the past 30 day's we have had 3 officer involved shootings?

I think not.

I read the Courier Journal every day and have for many years. I have always counted on them to report the news. I enjoy a major metropolitan paper that does allow reader comments and the forum section is one of my favorite sections. I learned about your website from the paper several months ago and decided to visit and see what all the hubub wa about.

First I want to say that I am very impressed with the quality and professional website that you have developed. I cannot believe the amount of content that you have here. I was really impressed reading your articles and I really like the way you have enabled people to comment on your stories. Great Job.

Having followed these stories for several months and the comparing them to CJ reported stories I can see that there is as Paul Harvey says "The rest of the story."

It shocked me to see that the CJ has not reported on al the troubles that Greensboro overcame by simply reversing the cuts that Chief White made after he left. This still hasn't been reported in the Cj and I now speculate that the CJ is indeed biased in favor of the Mayor and his administration. While it is indeed honorable for someone to stand behind his people, it is ludicrous to fail to admit that some policies and programs simply do not work.

I was in favor of merger and indeed I voted for it. It seemed that making everything and everyone into one agency and one group that shared information was better thatn having several groups doing the same thing. It bothered me when Mayor Abramson laid off many low paying emplyees and then hired a bunch of high paid Deputy mayors and such and that he keeps hiring people from out of town instead of finding local talent. I have nothing against Robert White. i am sure he is a capable administrator and the fact that he came from somewhere else didn't bother me until I found out that he doesn't seem to have a grasp about Louisville specific problems.

I disagree with the mayor when he says that the results of your survey was biased. I read all the questions and they seem intelligent and well thought out. Who better to judge the way things are being handled then the people (Officers) that work for Chief White and the citizens of Louisville every day. I cannot understand why the mayor is so against the Police wanting to express their frustration about policies that don't work for them.

I truly hope that the Mayor and the Chief look at the results of this and use them as a tool to improve the Police Department instead of ignoring it.

As a citizen and an outside observer I think that we should always examine how we do things and strive to improve. I also believe that if something is broken you fix it, and if something is working properly you do everything to maintain it and not discard programs that worked simply because you have a different concept of how things should be done.

I pray for our Police and our elected officials that work to make our town a truly wonderful and safe place. Please keep up the good work because I know I can sleep in my own home safely because of the dedicated men and women that patrol our streets 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

I read today's paper knowing full well that since David Hawpe had to make happy hour and didn't get an article in yesterday's paper that he would make up for it today. I wasn't dissapointed, because another of his typical ranting about someone saying something anti-abramson and anti-abramson appontee Chief White was true to form.

What I don't understand is that how can he conciously write such drivel on a continuos basis? His comment about the answers to the survey being ill timed because Officers shot and killed two people recently and Chief White backed them shows that the survey was wrong and Chief White supports his troops? DUH! Did it ever occur to you that the survey was sent out in early December and as soon as it was calculated the results were made publc. ( I believe they were delivered to the Chief and the maor before a press conference was held) I would like to think that Chief White, knowing that the pressure was on and people were dissatisfied with him and some of his policies was examining the way he did business.

As a matter of fact Monday he addressed his supervisors and told them they needed to concentrate more on the open air drug markets. This was a complete reversal of his policy over the past two years and that of his tenure at Greensboro. Would changes have occurred had the FOP not taken a chance and conducted a survey? I doubt it.

This whole administration is a joke from the mayor on down. Again the only way you can get rid of the snake is to cut his head off at the polls election day. So again talk to everyone you know and can influence at the polls about this joke of a administration, remind them of the snow and the high winds and days without air in their homes, just keep chipping at the stone it will crack sooner or later. The best time is 1 month before election and I hope the FOP has the guts to REMIND everyone with a full page in the mayor's paper, the CJ. This crap your doing will catch up with you sooner or later.

How many GOOD mayors, governors or police chiefs have we had in the last 20 years in this state? Not many. To get to the top you have to be an excellent buttkisser, an extremely good liar, a white-collar criminal or all of the above. The public is pretty used to that by now. The local media is apparently used to it too, as recently seen with their lack of coverage about Jerry's Technology Park scheme.

What the public does expect is that you don't let crime get out of control like it is right now. White doesn't believe in locking criminals up. He should go find a town like Mayberry to work for, because it doesn't work well where you have ACTUAL CRIME.

Meanwhile every street thug in Louisville knows they're free to kill and rob without any detectives trying to find them...why? Because Chief White disbanded the units that do those kinds of things. I can only hope that the public wakes up and votes Bob and Jerry and their staff of incompetent, buttkissing lackeys out during the next election.

Can you explain what advantages the "street thugs" had when Robert White wasn't around, mainly in 96-97 when we had back to back years of 69 homicides. Surely you can't blame the rise in homicides those to years on Robert White..matter of fact the Chief at that time wasn't even blamed for the rise in homicides..nobody was blamed. Now all of the sudden our new police Chief is the scapegot for every mugging, robbery and homicide in the city. This is what stupid ********** Louisvillians get for voting for the merger...we, or you all, wanted to be the 16th largest city, Whoopie, well guess what,? now it's time to deal with a 16th largest city crime rate....you all didn't expect crime to lower after merger did you? That wouldn't be very logical since the more people a city has the more murders a city will have..but even 69 murders is low for a city our size. These officers should be down on their knees thanking god that they don't have to deal with the crime rate of a New Orleans, or Memphis, because if they did a lot of them would have quit years ago!

STOP Blaming ROBERT WHITE for the forces laziness and lack of work ehtic, the good cops do their jobs, the bad cops sit around and fill out survey's. Get out in the streets and serve and PROTECT....not ********** and Moan.

Do you really want to go there...you must have slept through your career...let's see, several DUI's, accidents with death and serious injury, robbery, excessive force charges in beating of Paducah man, excessive force charges in beating of handcuffed man following a pursuit, handcuffed man drowns in river, over 2 million in settlements for "LPD" crashes since 2003, narcotics trafficking, narcotics usage, the list goes on and on...and all this just since 2002. Both Departments have had their "media stars" and embarrassing moments, give it a rest. We are Metro now, all in it together. The hay-days of the old Departments are gone!! P.S. As a former JCPD Officer who did not have the luxury of back-up right around the corner all the time to boost my bravado, I guess I did just fine handling "police work" without 5 other Officers to help.

To the MEDIA in this town, when you quote a SMALL percentage of the officers don't like what the CHIEF's doing and not able to lead this dept your telling a LIE to the public. The vote was 490 officers that say he can't lead, and friend that 50% of the dept not a small percentage so get your info straight or keep your lying news to yourself.

I agree with some of what is being said here. The chief is the head of the department and everyone else is either on the same bus as him or they are moved and replaced with someone who is. Only a few people actually take a stand and say they disagree, knowing that once the news gets back to the top, they will be moved or displaced. I think they term it "not being a team player". So as far as I am concerned the total blame should be on the chief. For those that stand up and call a terd a terd when they see it I applaud you, for those company men and women or "Yes men" as their called, that don't say anything because they like where their at and don't want to mess up their good thing, I say it will never change because there is no I in Team. Sleep well!
