Merge has nothing to do with it. With or without merger if the leaders of the City and the Department are failing the community and the Officers then there is a problem. When the Chief makes bad decisions/policies etc.. then the Officers have to live with it and the community suffers as well.

Metro Narcotics cut to bare bones staffing. Street Crimes and Gang Squad both eliminated. Officers working in planning and research, community developement, school resource positions.... it is no wonder the drugs are rampant, the murder rate is up and overall crime is on the rise. The crooks watch the news and read the paper also. They know the score. There are not enough officers riding beats, much less in critical units that specifically address violent crimes.

That is what this is all about, not merger. Whether you voted for it or not is not the issue, it passed and most officers try their best to work with what was formed out of it. All the guys on the street are working well together. It is the top brass that are having the difficulty making things work.

There are many fine COs on this department. I would like to say that at least one staff officer has my complete trust and confidence. Col. Steve Conrad. I haven't seen much out of our other two Lt. Colonels in the way of problem solving or holding the COs that work for them accontable.

We will get through this, but not unless some draatic changes take place. Chief White has a so called open door policy, but the door is open and all comments fall on deaf ears. He needs to own up to his mistakes and start fresh. The Officers will start having confidence in him when he finally does this. It takes a big man to admit he was wrong. Admit it Chief! Show everyone that you are the right man for the job by fixing what is now broken.

Of course LPD Officers are happy with the bed they have made. They are used to working for an embarrassing police department. They have taken JCPD and made one big mess of things. Now the unprofessional side of policing have been integrated in to the county where obviously JCPD Officers were much more professional. You say the Courier has a help wanted section..well isn't that the typical City mentality. That is the biggest change I have seen since the city took over the county...if you don't like it then quit. Thats a great way of dealing with problems...now I see first hand why city officers always had the crappy attitudes and treated citizens like **** because their department was one big ball of sh*t.
