For about 24 hours now I have been holding back from saying anything on this web site about the posting "the Tale of Two Stories." I am the reporter who did the WHAS 11 News story that was compared to the one done by Channel 32. I was made aware of this story after I got a call from a police officer who said the story that was posted by me just didn't sound like me. When he told me more about the story I said it sounded odd. When I went back to look, I had seen that they were comparing the story that I did on Sunday night at 11pm and A story that Channel 32 has done either at 5 or 6pm on Monday. The 32 story included the woman who was being held hostage. That woman was not availble on Sunday. Local TV did not have access to her until Monday. If you had compared my story to the one that ran at 11pm on Channel 32 you would probably have seen the same thing. Much like if you had compared Channel 32 's Monday story to stories done on Channell 11 Monday, you would have seen the same thing. We had the woman saying her life was saved by police.

I am very well aware of the delicate nature of what happens during a police shooting of any kind. In the 15 years I have worked in this market I have always been aware of the balance needed when covering this kind of story. I think any police officer that has come in contact with me during that time knows where I stand and ho wI cover stories.

My only other concern about all of this came when I learned from some FOP officers that they had pulled this story Tuesday morning On the WHAS and WLKY Websites. The streamling story had not been changed.

If that is the case, I should apologize because the story on the web was not changed. But I am concerned that if some one was doing a web story about this, No picked up the phone to call me to find ou twhy things were so out of whack, I would have explained it to them the way I explain i there. I am in the phone book and WHAS News knows how to get a hold of me.

I do not know how many officers have read this story and looked at the streaming video story and no wthink that I am putting some kind of spin on this. There is really nothing I can do about that. I only know that in 15 yearso fworking in this city, No One has ever accused me of being baised or trying to put a negative spin on the polic eforce of the city which I happen to have a great deal of respect for.
