Explore on my friend. When you hit that brick wall just turn around and come back the same way you got there....it will be OK. We will have fresh water and carbs for you at the finish line.

Maybe you don’t understand how the 12’s are legally being implemented. The wage and hour laws in KY were changed during the recent legislative session so that public safety could utilize expanded pay periods which are already authorized by federal law. The amended statute, however, only allows this to occur if the department/city and the officers (via their collective bargaining agent) agree. There was this little thing awhile back called a vote. The officers of LMPD, via their collective bargaining unit, voted that they agreed to work 12’s. They voted 4-1 in favor, by the way. So, we have a city and a group of officers who agree together to work 12’s, which is perfectly legal under federal and state law. Not to mention that many, many police officers (and others) around the country have worked 12-hour shifts for many years.

One other tidbit to consider. Remember that no one gets there cake and gets to eat it too. If you feel like you are being discriminated against because you are too old to work 12 hours a day, then by all means the dept. needs to ensure that you don’t work ANY off duty during days you work because that would be discriminatory….right?
