After a few more years he will have his 20 in as Sheriff, so he can retire again. He has been in law enforcement a long time. He is well known in the Scottish Highlands, where he first served many years ago as a young officer on his first department. There can be only one!

As a former JCSO Deputy I can tell you firsthand that there is no training at the sheriffs office for guys on the street you are sent out after a BS 10 week fto rotation in every job at Jcso. You spend 1 week training in warrants/epo unit and are evaluated on that one week. It is a joke there. That unit is by far the most dangerous police work I've ever done in my career and to be sent out of the academy to the street and basically let go on my own with only the academy training under my belt is just plain idiotic. The only thing that saved my *** were the retired officers who took it upon them selves to train me right. I'm so glad I lateraled out if that place as quick as I could. There are a lot of great deputies who work there and do a great job. I'm honestly shocked stuff like this doesn't surface more often about Jcso. If they are smart they will change their training standards for new recruits fresh out of the academy. The guys in the warrant/epo unit need to be trained like police officers since they do quite a bit of policing in that unit. I spent many nights in the 1st and 2nd division serving warrants and backing up lmpd officers. It's just stupid not to train these guys properly. I guess it will take a massive lawsuit to get them to make the appropriate changes that are needed at Jcso. I just hope that no deputy gets hurt or sued because of the failure of the administration.
