David James can't serve as Metro Council member and UofL police officer, County Attorney says |

The remaining questions are who gets credit for the good that was done, who gets the blame for the problems, and who gets some of both. Usually higher ups take most of the credit but in this case, it may not be possible.

Viper has done no more than division flex detectives do on a daily basis. Viper gains more attention from the media since Yvette implemented it. Of course they are going to show their numbers. How about showcasing the other units numbers! I'm sure flex detectives have decreased homicides, confiscated guns, seized narcotics as well.

Is this the same unit that had more no true bills than any other unit? Is this the unit that was run as a boys club rather than a para miltary organization? Is this the unit where probable cause is pribably cuz they cussed you? How many of the guns have been court ordered released. How much of the dope weights include packaging materials? How many cases for different units will now be fouled up because of this mess. Yes sir. Sounds like a poorly run unit. Oh wait one more. How many thousands if not into the millions will this cost the city in civil suits? Try that on you beard sportin 'uniform detective' that got screwed at the start and never even realized it. Good luck

I don't honestly believe that anyone questions the results of Viper's efforts, just the methods to achieve them.
First, there is the underlying resentment of having a unit being referred to as "elite" (mostly self titled), which was compounded by the decimating hit to the divisions' manpower. Division officers are being told to do more with less while Viper is allowed an unquestioned amount of overtime is definitely a source of friction.
Second, based on my observations and interactions with the Viper unit, there seem to be two squads that follow the rules and work well with others, while the other two, well...
Third, the point with Lt. Steimle is this - he is responsible for the conduct of not only himself but for the entire unit. While there are always things that you cannot control, he can control the example he sets for the Sergeants and Officers under his command. His inappropriate conduct and belief that the rules that apply to others do not apply to him may well have cost at least one of his officers not only their job, but gained them a criminal conviction as well. Kit might get demoted, or can just retire and walk away from the whole thing. Not so for those he was supposed to be leading.
As for the majority of the Viper unit that come to work everyday and do a hell of a job without any problems, they are now having the stigma of the few placed on them - sound familiar?
