Sure -- if you really treat them as laterals and not make them go back through another basic training.

I'm always hearing folks on LMPD say officers are retiring "left and right" out of there. Sometimes they make it sound like there is some kind of mass exodus or something. Like nobody who has any sense does a day over 20 years. I wonder if it is really true or if the retirements are no different than they have always been.

10 left on day one. Five more today. Maybe LMPD should harden their academy so less pogues graduate. LMPD is a great department but recruiting and the city hiring people have their priorities crossed. If our recruiting says not to hire a recruit, thats a clue. To many "yes men".
