I agree that there are some clever and competent defense attorneys working down town. They're good at their jobs, no one disputes that. It just gets old seeing the police department constantly being demonized and criticized for "not doing enough". We spend our days and nights running around locking these people up....most of these dirtbags have arrest records as long as my arm... That's the result of officers doing their jobs and getting them off the streets. The problem is beyond our control. The cliched revolving door jail / prison system is to blame, and the sooner these "community groups" realize that and start focusing their efforts in that direction, instead of blaming the police department, the better.

As far as disparity between prosecution attorneys and defense attorneys it has a lot to do with the fact that the pay is not competitive from the county. The top of the class will generally opt for higher paying jobs.
