As far as the respect aspect, where is it from your end?""""""Lets see the person who posted its only the 8th must have back up less than 3 seconds away and only police 5 city blocks with 12 - 14 Officers"""""". Yeah that's respect

I have worked an old city district with 7 beats having only 5 cars and an acting on a Saturday night covering 3 beats by myself when a hot run came out. Then worked an area of town if I got 3 burg reports in a week I was amazed, so I'm there with you. As far as the 8th and drugs or danger, yes there is more dope in the 8th than in the 1st and 2nd combined. That's just economics. Where the difference lies is the violence level associated with the dope. Not a fan of the communist journal but right before merger they did a study on violent crime per district of the old city. the 6th now the 1st had over 600 violent crimes per officer in a year if I remember correctly. This included assault 4th, WE2nd etc which comes out to roughly 2 a day in the division but only had roughly 90-95 assigned. Take out the COs,DROs,detectives etc and the number goes way up for the beat guy. Yes some were reports but a lot were in progress. I have had nights where I went from a car jacking to a break in in progress to a pursuit from another district where the people in the car were throwing guns out as they rounded a corner to a pursuit with the car from the previous carjacking. Doesn't make me a super cop, just doing a job dictated by the population and the geography. The point about old city asking where is my back up is countered by an old county that came to the old city 6th. He marveled at the number of foot chases he was in because he was so close to the crime. The switching of divisions requires a cultural transition. It is neither good or bad just a fact. To the comment that shows up here on a regular basis about working where you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a criminal\wanted person\dope just reinforces my previous statement. As far as your back up being 20 minutes away, take some ownership of that issue. Call each other and say hey I've got this going on lets get together and see what we can do. This works even on traffic problems. Boss on your but about speeding on Shelbyville Rd? Get someone else to hang out in the area. When people see two Officers on scene they tend to pucker up a bit more and take it seriously. Then when you get that car you want to search, you wont have to wait so long for someone to come and watch your back. Before anyone says it, if boss is on your but about not being on your beat, nothing says you can't hang on the boundry just inside your beat.
