I have 20 years on and I never got into the habit of bragging about "how things were" or "back when I came on." A lot of veterans think it makes you look seasoned, but it really makes you sound outdated. I love talking to the new guys- it keeps me fresh. You are only as old as you think you are.

I have been a cop for nearly 15 years and I have never heard one cop say anything about pencils... WTF

Well, back when I came on, 18 years ago, we used real ink pens and did not use pencils. SO the pencil remark is stupid.
