Sam Cromity,

I hope you fail miserably with your petty lawsuit. Even if he called you a "Black Barney Fife", big deal. You mean to tell me your panties are in a bunch over that? You are just angry because Meiners beat you in court. You are so used to people just going in and pleading guilty now you are acting like a spoiled brat. I always thought you were a *****. Now I know for sure.

First off.... this web site is FULLLLLLLL of none police... Every mdedia outlet has mentioned LMPDdotCOM, the ville voice frequently mentions LMPDdotCOM and ads a link on their site to this site, the CJ mentions LMPDdotCOM.... So many people on here are not LMPD OFFICERS....

Second.... I have known sam for 20 years and he has always treated me fair and is a nice guy, even though he is he to do a job and not be my friend or anyone else.

I think Meiners was wrong for saying what he did on the radio repeatedly, but calling him a liar in court is nothing. I would guess only about 20% of this department has sat through 5 or more circuit court TRIALS, you get call way worse than liar. One homicide det told me thy were called GRANDIOUS MEDIA ***** by a defense attorney in court to the jury and there are dozens of more examples.....

pick and choose your battles

Quit bashing the Officer. No wonder there is no unity within this Dept. To many cry babies who need to quit whining and concentrate on doing their job. This Dept has nothing but a bunch of cry babies on it.

I am not going to try and defend much of what is said on this site. I will simply say that Sam Cromity has been an equal opportunity ticket writer over his career, and if you speed you get a ticket. There is no doubt in my mind that Mr. Meiners was speeding. And there is no doubt that he was indeed going the speed he was charged with. What is in doubt is how much effort the county attorney’s office and the judicial bench took in reviewing the case. Did they review the in car camera? Did they give this the time it deserved because of the personalities involved? Obviously the answer is probably not.

What is also not in doubt is that Mr. Meiners utilized his bully-pulpit to cast dispersions on to Sam and every other officer in the county and state. Does he, as citizen have a right to voice his opinion? Yes, he does. Does he have the right to slander the name of an officer? That is to be debated in the civil court.

In my not so humble opinion, by attacking one officer doing his job, he basically devalued the efforts of every officer in this city, county and state. I, for one, am insulted. And I have a long memory. I will do my job and will defend Mr. Meiners’ rights, property and life as need be. But if he speeds by me, he will get stopped and he will get a ticket. He, and all the staff at his radio channel have now lost the opportunity for any future considerations of officer discretion from this officer.

The Video

It "appears" the video backs Terry Meiner's version of the story

The right thing applies to all equally

I see the "brotherhood" comments on both sides, I see the officer and public person being commented on, so here is my opinion. The laws, speeding, court system and so on should apply to everyone equally. While the "right" thing may not always be the end result, it's the best we have. If you speed, you may be cited, if you have a legal action, you might take it to court. In summary, Mr. Meiners did make specific comments bout an officer that the public may think applies to all. These two can battle back and forth in court all they want. What should the rest of us do. Mind our own business, be professional and be safe.

"Being on the streets" is sooo overated. So you go from one end of the division to the next taking stupid reports. When was the last time you were involved in anything where you needed to use police tactics? Ok, you are probably averaging once every two weeks at best. Don't tell me how rough and tough it is "being on the streets". You are basically a uniformed clerk referreing stupid disputes. Not too dangerous to me.
