My old agency gave us $750 a year for a clothing allowance, but we used the quartermaster system - I got a voucher to go buy what I needed. Ergo, I actually got that much in stuff. I didn't get it in income so, no taxes. It's nuts to get a clothing allowance as part of your check, nuts for you, nuts for the agency. (Ammo and vest were separate, everything else was up to us to decide what we needed, we didn't have the fancy embroidered tee-shirts so we usually opted to buy those on our own from Wal-mart.)
