Excellent question. I remember years back, when and LMPD officer was critically injured in a non-duty related accident, the FOP trying to collect money to allow his wife to pay for day care for their daughter so she could spend the day at the hospital. I remember thinking, with all the spouses who do stay home with young children, there wasn't ONE who was willing to take care of the little girl so her mom could be at the hospital with her officer husband? There is a statewide fund available to assist with emergency expenses, but LMPD is apparently unaware of it - Pegram's family got a 2K check from the fund - but only because I made the initial contacts with the fund to get it done. It's available for other serious emergencies too, but they aren't located here so unless someone contacts them, they don't know about the need (Hint, you see those shield/rose plates on cars, each one donates ten bucks to the fund when they renew the plate.)

And as for contact, well, for heaven's sake, I can't believe that if someone is hurt, has a heart attack, or even, for example, is deployed with the military, that the members of the platoon couldn't band together to make sure that the grass is cut, etc. Instead, it sounds like they are just forgotten by - not the department - but their own friends and colleagues!

And no, I don't work for LMPD.
